Supercharger on 4runner.

Hi all,

I consider buying a 99 4runner (with 160000 miles and 5-speed manual) which has a Toyota installed supercharger.
Does anyone know how much power increase those superchargers give?

Maintenance and reliability?

Do I have to use premium gas?

Also, how much extra I have to pay for used 4runner that has a supercharger?

Unfortunately, Toyota stopped making 4runners with 5-speed manual transmissions in 2000 ...

Without the fuel upgrades you might see an increase of 60 horsepower. With all the URD fuel upgrades and tuning you can nearly double stock horsepower at the crank

OP, where are you located? That can play a lot in your decision. A lot of people who are around sea level experience pinging issues that seem to only be remedied by running a bigger pulley (which will decrease your power) or running a 7th injector setup.

Yes, you will have to run premium gas.

Not sure how much extra you'll have to pay. Depends on market. You could get anywhere from $500-1500 for a used supercharger depending on its condition and if it's a first gen or second gen.

Maintenance will also depend on which gen S/C you have. If it has never been painted, first gen S/C's are grey while second gens are black.

The truck is located in Maryland area but originally was purchased and serviced in Colorado.

The supercharger is gray (silver) color with red TRD letters on it, I guess its a first generation?

Sounds like a 1st gen. You could actually use the miles to your advantage. The supercharger most likely needs some work done to it...rebuild...and you could mention that when negotiating price. You have to send the 1st gens out to I believe only one place.
You could also just sell the thing after you buy if you don't feel like messing with it. I know there are people that would buy it...myself included. Just google "3rd gen 4Runner supercharger" and you'll find all kinds of info on them.
