Supercharger removal

I know someone having this exact problem with their SC'd 01. They pulled the SC off and sold it. Lean code still came back.

I know multiple people with the SC (including myself) with no fuel upgrades and do not throw any codes.

Update: I had my mechanic look everything over. Turns out there was a vacuum leak on the rear of the supercharger. I'm not completely sure what to call the part (wastegate) but you could move it a little bit side to side. I'm not sure if there is a gasket that was supposed to be there or not but a little rtv around the edge sealed it up and I haven't had a check engine light on yet. If there is a better/proper way to seal it up please let me know but I'm super happy that the truck runs better!
Thanks for everyone's help.

Nice catch, the 1st gen are notorious for leaks at the wastegate. And YES, there is a thin gasket which is no longer available to purchase. This gasket will detiorate over time and S/C rebuilders use RTV to remedy this gasket issue. From the info provided, your ECU should be stock. As suggested, once you remove the S/C and disconnect the battery during that process. When you reconnect the battery the ECU will reset itself over a few hundred miles to accept is new setup. NO BIGGIE.

FYI, more than likely you do have colder plugs try pulling a plug to verify. Further, you should be running premiun gas as well. Another notorious issue is pinging, a leaning issue. Best described as a bunch of marble tossed around in a can sound.
If it's pinging and you don't want fuel mods, try the " anti-ping pulley" if you can find one. I have one and it worked great when I used it.

However, from those of us with S/C envy and you do too you just don't know it yet, LOL. What you will notice is how much you will miss the S/C performance. Drive a stock 3.4L before you pull the S/C. That should help with your decision.

Just throwing this out there just in case your interested.

The stock pulley is a 2.34" pulley that gives around 6-7psi of boost. Toyota also sold a 2.65" pulley that gave around 5.5psi of boost.

If you are wanting to keep the sc but are still worried about running lean, i have one of the 2.65" pulleys that i would let ya have for cheap. if your interested let me know.
