Superflex with firestone airbag opnions

I have decided on toytec superflex rear coils paired with airbags. I don't want a super harsh rear ride that come with the ome 895s, but I do tow my boat frequently. I figured the superflex paired with the bags was the best of both worlds. For those of you running this set up, where did you run the hoses to on the vehicle for an easy fill?

Here is my fill location. Excellent location for filling but exposed to the elements more than i thought and am getting some rust on the hex nuts. Going to have to get stainless replacements or paint them.

Put my two valves and air switch from JA's page into the trailer wiring bracket.

Rear bumper cover. I put wire loom around the air lines for the runs. Also got 9" airbags from Firestone for the additional coil length, I believe stock are 7". I have the Toytec Superflex RCC2.0 coils. Got a nice lift from them to keep the hitch from dragging offroad.

Yea I was wondering if I'd need taller bags when running the superflexes. Do you know which firestone kit you are running? The one listed on toytecs site is the 4135.

Firestone and they are tough! I heard of airlift's leaking and they are about the same price so I went with the known. I originally had these in stock springs so they are the stock height with the stock internal bumpers cut. I would recommend longer if you're doing it in lift springs but I transferred mine over to lift springs and even though they are too short they work. They are designed to be somewhat of a bump stop yes, but a lot of what they do is bulge out and create some coil bind to stiffen it up. They work great for heavy loads, especially dirtbike hanging off the hitch on the hitch hauler.

Do you inflate preload or after your trailer and vehicle is loaded?

inflate when it's empty then load it up to resist the sag. Sagging it then inflating would just bind the springs up in a lower setting. This may be where longer bags would help.

Help me understand: I am lifted and sometimes find the ride on our rough roads a bit rough when alone. When loaded or towing a load it's better. Would air bags smooth out my unloaded ride?

No, I dont think so. Since i have been riding around with mine pressurized for almost half year now (a test i am doing) I can tell you the ride is more rough, not smoother, when pressurized but unloaded. Not unbearable, but not what i would call smoother.

The firestone bags call for a min of 5psi. Will that low of psi affect everyday, unloaded driviny?

Also, I reached out to Firestone being that I will be running a 2" lift in the rear. Our stock kit would be the 4135 which has a 7.5" tall bag. They recommended the 4107 kit which offers a 9" tall bag.

Yeah, that's what I bought, the 4107. It's for a Ford/Mercury but it works for a 4Runner. I have about 4000 miles on them towing 4000lbs and offroading with the trailer unhooked. Cut the bumpstop down to nil and use the plastic plate in the 4107 kit on the top.

They're the correct width for the Runner coils, correct load capacity, but 9".

They're the correct width for the Runner coils, correct load capacity, but 9".

Thanks for the reply. I had missed the previous post where you said you were running 9". Do you run them at 5psI from day to day driving? Also, the 4135 (7.5") bag calls to trim the bump stop bit doesn't come with the disc bumpstop. Do the bags fill the entire coil or was there a gap and that's why you decided to use the bump stop that came with the kit?

No it will not affect everyday driving. But on the other hand it wont further smooth out the ride either.

Agreed, the longer airbags will be much better in that application.

Keep the top part of the cone bumpstop after you cut the lowest portions off, use the plastic disc in the 4107 kit as a buffer on the top of the bags.

Yes, keep them inflated to the minimum psi so they don't float in the coils.

What are you towing? My boat weighs about the same. What psi are you inflating at that weight?
