I agree my warn 9.5xp is a great winch especially with a dual battery setup. the husky 10 is Ina different categor because of the worm drive alone. It's the best type of winch design available. If the camel trophy truck used them I their crazy expeditions in africa and rain forest they must being doing something right. I have had an issues with my warn 9.5 xp winch motor. It was rusted out and seized. I did have the correct drain port open and the other sealed. This is probably the biggest fault of this winch. I wish I could find directions on how to waterproof the motor/windings to prevent future issues. If anyone has directions on waterproofing a warn 9.5 XL winch please let me know and pass it along. I've hear of shops providing a winch service that included the 9.5 motor sealing.
I really wish I never got rid of of my 1997 LR discovery XD. It was basically the camel trophy edition truck minus the aftermarket accessories. That truck went through stuff that was amazing. I could make it through trail that truck with 35" tires with all the bells and whistles would get stuck in creating ditch size ruts. One day during a sever storm it we went through 5-6 feet of water and you could feel the truck start float off the ground, butn I was lucky I got a nice steady wake off the front of my bumper to keep an air pocket in the engine compartment..although I did have a snorkel. One extra mod in did was a OME lift and some additional breathers.
I do love the warm 9.5 co but after seeing what the super winch husky 10 I was sold. Even bill Burke recommends and uses this winch.. He's the off road God.
What battery, or batteries, do you have available for your 9.5 XP?
Does anyone know how and where to add front row hooks with a truck that had an ARB bumper? This is one of the weakness my truck has. Next for me is air lockers I think. I can't find a rear bumper I like. I wish TJM made a rear bumper for the 4Runner. I had a TJM on my 1998 foerd explorer and loved that bumper!
