I want to install supplemental reverse lights on my 1987 4Runner. I’ve purchased a pair of halogen lights from Harbor Freight (Clear Lens Halogen Lights). The kit came with a simple switch I doubt I’ll use.
I want them wired so that I can select one of three options at the dash: a) off; b) on; c) on only when in reverse. I doubt the existing wiring is adequate to run them, so I suspect I should run a heavier wire from the battery to the rear of the truck, then run a smaller wire to/from the lights and switch, with a relay closing the heavier circuit.
Can anyone confirm my ideas? Correct me where I’m running astray?
Can anyone suggest parts and sources for the relay and switch? (Of course, I’d prefer a local vendor where I can walk in and buy them, then start tinkering directly.)
Thx,
Jon
