looks good, but for mine i'm gong to mount it closer to the roof. I don't prefer to have that huge gap. just my opinion

thats the surco mounts, and i agree it sucks. im gonna have a buddy fab me some custom ones that are lower.

does that basket have to be mounted to square bars? or can it be used on a factory rack.

Yeah, the price for the Surco can't be beat, but I'm like you, that huge gap between the roof and the bottom of the rack SUCKS! That's been the main reason I've stayed away from it. Now if your buddy makes some brackets that make the rack sit closer to the roof, get him in touch w/ Surco and have him start selling his design idea to them. I'd buy one is a sec then. Otherwise, just have him make plenty of them, and you can just sell them to us instead!

Oh yeah, I meant to ask, what brand of light and what wattage are you running up there?
Second, are they working yet? If so, how did you run the wires? I know on 2nd Gens, you can utilize the 3rd brake light to run the wires b/c it can be removed, but on 3rd Gens, that light is molded into the body. I've seen some guys run them down the window channels and into the engine bay. I'm trying to figure out a way to keep from drilling a hole in my roof.

they are 100w driving lights... what ive seen done in the past (what the guy who sold this to me did) was runt he wires neatly along the rack to the rear, where he apparently ran them down to the bottom of the tailgate and ran the wiring in that way... sort of like under the taillight into the rear panels. or i might do it like i ran my sirius wiring (under the little strip panel, then into the body panels from there), but really i have to find a power source first and figure it out from there.
so, no theyre not wired yet...

it may also be helpful to someone who mounts this rack to learn how i got rid of the floorboard rattles.
over bumps, these floorboards shake and hit the crossbars... so i took some velcro, used only the soft part, and stuck it to the bottom of the floorboards, so when they hit the crossbars, they were muted.
it worked perfectly... not a peep out of it, and it doesnt even make much wind noise.

It was nice having a removable 3rd brake light on my '95 I used to own. I had 4 lights in the front, 2 on the side and 2 in the back like his, and was able to run all the wire down through that 3rd brake light. Too bad the 3rd Gens did away w/ the removable light. So far, his is the best way I've found to run lights on top.

been meaning to ask you about the sliders. did you get them built or did you find it somewhere. My brother is good with machine work and I might have him help me build some but not sure how they mount if they mount like stock running boards or not.
