Surprising improvement

etc.

Since the 3 months of owning the vehicle, I have done as much maintenance as time permits.

*Seafoam
*Oil w/ Auto RX
*Plugs
*Fuel filter
*Trans, diffs and TC fluid
***more but I forget.

With all this done, I was still averaging 14.x mpg. I replaced the air filter and my average had went up to 17.x mpg. These averages were taken from several fuel tank fill ups.

Anyhow, I got the chance to replace the plug wires, clean the throttle body w/ mod'd gasket, clean the IAC, throttle body bypass and clean the MAF sensor. All I got to say is "What an improvement!!!!"

None of the previous maintenance performed had been this noticable. The throttle is now touchy for a 3.4 truck. I can imagine getting a couple more mpgs now... hopefully :)

The best way to get better gas mileage is to drive slower and avoid stop and go traffic. I changed the route that I drive daily to work to a different route that had less stop and go traffic, and my fuel economy went from about 17.25 to 19.25.

I wish my 4runner was getting 17-19mpg. Right now I'm getting 11.5 mpg. I've done plugs, wires, air filter. I guess my right foot is a little heavy.

I can imagine. When I was getting 14mpg, it took a lot of fun out of driving it as a DD... considering my 350 in a 4400lbs car gets high teens in the city and mid 20s on the highway.

I have a hard time believing that a 3rd gen 4runner is getting 19mpg . . . unless its all highway, or it has really low miles, or its essentially mint. But Im not saying it cant be done. But Ive seafoamed mine, ISR mod, new plugs, deckplate, cleaned the tb, switched to mobile 1 synthetic motor oil and amsoil synthetic gear oil in the rear dif, changed a bad injector, and im getting around 16. And thats half highway miles.

Agreed.

I pretty much baby mine. Hardly ever take it over 2,500 RPM and I'm still struggling to get 16 in town.

i can do 18-19 all day, no highway, no city, just town driving and it will do 18-20mpg all the time, cause when i do town driving its ususally 45-55mph when the engine is at its most effiecent, not like 75mph on the highway, and under 25mph for city.
