Suspension Clarity (yes another one, sorry)

I swear I read something somewhere on this forum saying that this set up will work....

I have
Bilstein 5100 front shocks
Bilstein 5125 rear shocks
FJ front and rear coils
New strut bushing assemblies
1.5" cornfed rear poly spacer

I just cant seem to remember where I read this set up working. I'm getting all the work done tomorrow (sadly I'm way too busy to do it myself right now) and I'm really hoping that this will work. With some research I am unable to find the answer and I am really hoping someone can chime in and let me know if I should ditch the rear poly spacers or add a front 1" spacer. any help would be greatly appreciated. eep:

Yes, that setup will work, but think really hard about the Bilstein 5125's. I put 5125's on the rear of my Runner three weeks ago and absolutely HATED them. Compared to 5100's, the 5125's have a TON of rebound. They are superb for offroad flexing. But, on-road, especially at high speeds, the ass of your Runner is going to bounce, REALLY HIGH (unless you have a CBI rear bumper or something comparably heavy). I am assuming that this is your first lift on your Runner and thus you probably DO NOT have a CBI, or comparably heavy rear bumper installed. I ended up shipping my 5125's back to Toytec last week, to swap out for 5100's which are supposed to be much tighter. Good luck.

I read your post a while back about them and I am seriously considering the change like you. I got them from toytec also. How were they on the exchange? I forgot who I talked with there but they seemed adamant on pushing the 5125s because the 5100s were back ordered. It wont be a hard swap in my driveway so if it will work all together ill just go ahead pull the trigger and if it feels like I'm in a bouncy castle I'll return them for the others.

When I spoke to them last week, they had the rear 5100's back in stock. Toytec should have no problem taking them back. I drove around with mine installed for over two weeks before shipping them back (without original packaging) and they still took them and swapped them. Of course, I'm still waiting for them to get here, but at least I know they are on the way! Just make sure that you call them with your original order# and tell them you've changed your mind based on what you read on T4R.org and you should be in good shape. They will issue you a modified order# to include with your return. Be sure to specify that you need the REAR 5100's. Anyway, glad I could help.

Luckily for me I am about an hour away from their shop! Will have to take the ladies Bronco but these 5100s are sounding like a better bet anyway. Glad they didnt give you any crap for returning them. Thanks for the info!

Just a quick update, found out the 5125's do not actually "fit" the rear. I mean yeah you can make them work but they are not "specd" out for the runner. From Bilstein themselves "only the 5100s are specd" Thankfully the shop that did the work was really understanding and once the problem was found they didnt hesitate to give me a call instead of just "making it work".

Turns out with the 5125's, the lower mount (on the axle) is longer than the width of the loop on the bottom of the shock. Toytec suggested adding washers to "make up the difference" which I agree is a way to make it work, but its not the right way to do it. I will be taking preachers (and now Bilsteins) advice and trade these out for some original 5100's
