Suspension HELP please!

Hey guys, i got under my runner this weekend to look at my springs and have a question. My 97 SR5 sits higher than anyones i know. I have 4 friends with 4runners and one is an SR5 as well, mine sits a good bit higher than all of theirs. im runnin 265s on it.

My front coils have red and blue on the drivers side, and i could only find a small blue dot on my pass side, (covered in mud and grease). The rear didnt seem to have any markings on them (wrapped 5 times). All my shocks have a blue stripe on the bottom of them where they bolt in.



Does anyone have an idea of what coils i have and why mine is higher than other peoples? or are thiers just sagging alot? haha

What years are your friends 4runners?
You should be higher if they are 2000 or newer.Also I've noticed some 4runners have 265/70r16 and not 265/75r16
My 96 has the same markings as yours and I also sit higher than most 4runners in comparison when I park next to them.

Theyre all newer than 2000. I have 265/75/16s on mine. Most of my friends have smaller tires as well. But my friends 4x4 V6 with 31x10.50s sits lower than mine. I believe his is an 02.

Is your runner stock?

02's were some of the lowest sitting 3rd gens. Also your 265/75's are an inch taller than your friends 31's, so that will account for the differences. My 00 was much shorter than the 96-99 4runners out there.

im looking at doing the LC coil lift... i want 5 or so inches of lift for them.

Am i correct in saying if i buy the lc fj80 coils from 91-97 that are 9.25 wraps for the front and rear will it give me the lift i want? Are they direct replacements?

You can only use the front coils off of a Landcruiser for the back of the 3rd Gen. Rear coils of the LC goes to the rear of the 2nd Gen.

Like he said for the rear your gonna need the front springs from a LC, You've got a lot of options for the front. Taco springs, tundra springs, icons, fox etc.. all depends on how deep your pockets are. 8 wraps gave me a little over 5 inches, the 9s are probably going to give you 6 6 1/2

Thanks guys! im learning alot on here. Like ive said, ive only built jeeps and mustangs before, so these are new to me.

What are the cheapest springs to go with for the front to get a level 5-6in lift all around? If you have color codes or part numbers that would be awesome! My dad lives in Florida and teaches at a tech college and gets huge discounts on new parts from places. So ill probably order new replacements if he can find them. Any numbers or codes would help alot for front and rear.

I realize it wont be dirt cheap, but i dont wanna spend a crap ton of money yet... i have addications to guitars, hunting and long range shootin that get alot of my time and money. lol

For the rear go with the LC's or OME. There are no numbers for the LC coils, but the color codes can be found in this thread. The 9 wraps will be the cheapest 5-6" lift in the back, but will sag. Others have gone with OME 861's which give a good amount of lift, I think 4.5-5.5" depending on the weight in the back.

There is no front lift that will match a 5-6" rear lift. 3" is all we can do unless you go SFA or a Drop Bracket lift. Drop bracket lifts are not recommended at all and give you no more clearance that a 3" lift.

Some on here have a 3.5" front lift....it may be that they also have aftermarket upper control arms but I'm not sure if that helps with cv angle or not.

Thank you guys for all your help! i know theyre frowned upon, but Coil spacers.... Can i safely lift it 2.5-3 in with coil spacers? Do i have to replace my shocks if i do? Is it as simple as just placing the spacer under the spring? Thanks for the help guys!
