Suspension issue and thinking spacers will solve it. Please check in

05 4runner

Hey everyone a few months ago I had some goodyear silent armor's installed on my 2005 4runner. Size is 255 75 17. There not bad I guess. I didn't have the rubbing issue some have had with the mudflaps and/or front bumper clearance, but maybe it's b/c I have a 3" Toytec spacer kit all around. A few weeks ago I noticed the front tires sit about a 1/8th of a inch at most away from the UCA's and there just barely clearing the center of the spindles. I been thinking a spidertrax spacer kit might be in order. Yesterday a friend of mine got ride of his FJ and I inherited his 5 moto metal wheels and Mickey Thompson MTZ tires. The Mickey's are 33x12.5 R17. I do not know what the back spacing is on the stock SR5 4wd 4runner's, but I'm thinking since the GYSA's are so close to UCA's and spindles that these would prolly rub for sure. Can you guys recommend what size spidertrax kit I should go with? should I get the same for the front and rear? Rear clearance seems find, but I am sure it would look odd only having spacers on the front.

I know spacers have been beat to death on here and I am sorry for making a new post, but I figured I'd get a answer this way versus replying to on of those long old threads.

Thanks

If you want to get your current tires and wheels further away from the UCA and knuckle, then yes spidertrax spacers are your answer. Now depending on the backspacing of your friends moto metal wheels, even with the wide tires, they may clear the knuckle and UCA just fine. You will probably have to trim some other stuff in order to fully turn them. The only sure way to tell is to try one on.

I looked on Moto Metals website and the rims are 17x9.... The Factory SR5 4wd wheel is 17x7.5 so does this mean I will need spacers when putting on the Moto wheels? I need to know asap b/c Saturday i'm going to Rausch Creek for the GrEEN ride and I'm sure I'd have to order this morning to get them by Friday and that might even be pushing it.

Thanks

not necessarily, like gm350 said, depends on backspacing/offset. but also u may need to do some trimming including a body mount chop to run 33s.

what do you mean by body mount chop? I guess the 3" lift isn't enough to worry about hacking things up eh?

Thanks for the reply

Also keep in mind that pushing the wheels out with wheelspacers may now lead to rubbing issues on the front fender liner and mudflaps that you didn't have before. Most don't have that issue until spacers are added so you may fix one problem but cause another.

I hope I don't need one. The tires I have on now are 32" from what I've been told and the new set up is 33". So if I'm thinking right it's really only going to raise the height about 1/2" off the rim. I'm just worried that since I am so close now and seem to rub at near to full turn that these tires might cause more of a rubbing issue.

I just went out and did a dry test fit to the front right. I couldn't put the runner down b/c I don't have the lugs needed (still trying to find which ones I need). But they sit out really nice and it didn't look like I'd have clearance issues to the front or back, but I guess I wont really know till I can put it on the ground. I took notice of the spindle and UCA and noticed it cleared much better then with the tires I have on now. Again I just don't know if the UCA will rub once the runner is on the ground. Hopefully I will be able to find the lugs I need and test them soon. I thouhght about calling Burtman since he has spacers in stock and apparently is in PA has well. I think if I clear the UCA once on the ground then spacers won't be needed unless I'd want it to stick out more. But from what I seen it stuck out just find the way it was.

Thanks. I'm sure I will. I have GYSA's (like mentioned) on now and there ok, but imo weren't worth the money. in 2WD they will get a little loose in rain and/or snow. In 4WD all is perfect. I picked up 5 of these Moto Metal wheels and tires for $500 from my friend. I thought that was to good to pass up. He never rotated the spare in so the spare is 100% new and the other 4 are about 50-60% left. I think being half used the tread is nice, but when I look at the spare I'm like holy crap these things were meaty. Can't wait to test everything out Saturday at Rausch. I just figured out the lugs I needed and ordered from a Company in TX. Should be here Wed or Thurs. Just hoping I won't have a issue with the UCA when lowering the runner back down - doesn't "seem" like I will.

From reading that thread it seems like with 32/33's on stock wheels you have the issues. But with a different rim your problem is solved with really not needing a spacer.

Thanks

I think you will have serious rub issues.

People with 285/70's rub and the tire is about a 32.6-32.8x 11.5ish

Your tire is an inch wider and a hair taller. I wouldn't be surprised if cutting or a body lift is required to fit them properly.

I guess we will find out. I called Burtman to source spacers and inquiry about picking them up if needed since he is only about 45mins from me and He thinks I should be ok. Might need to get the spacer kit, but other then that he seemed to think all would be well with the 3" lift I have on it now. Lets just hope so
