Suspension/lift advice.....

Hey, this is my first post. I'm a long-time Toyota guy (first I had a Corolla, then a Tacoma and finally my beloved 4Runner!)...I am interested in a little extra clearance. My question is if I get an OME suspension lift (2.5" let's say), then my truck will sit higher, but unless I get bigger tires won't the axles still have the same clearance?? And is there any advantage to this? I think a higher stance would look tougher, but on the trail does it in fact help?

yes it does help. a 2.5 lift wont turn your car into a rock crawling machine, but it will aid you a little bit. just always be thinking about staying on high ground so your axle doesnt come down on a rock. larger tires will aid in this, but same thing, wont make a huge difference unless you bounce up higher in tire size. i think you can do like a 3-3.5 lift with 33 inch tires. thats a decent lil setup, what i had on my jeep wrangler.

Correct, a suspension lift will not raise your axles...hence the name "suspension" lift.

Yes, a suspension lift does have it's advantages besides giving your truck a "meaner" look. It will raise the overall height of your vehicle, thus giving you much needed ground clearance. In turn, it will also provide room to add larger tires, which in turn will raise your axles somewhat.

I have OME coils, I don't recall which coil numbers but it gave me 1" lift up front and 1.5" out back. I had original Wrangler 265/70/R16 RT/S, now I am running Cooper Discoverer STT 265/75/R16.

I do but hardly notice that I am about an inch taller than regular 3rd Gen 4Runners.
