Suspension noise

i have a 06 SE 4x4 runner. i started noticing a metal-to-metal noise coming from my driver side suspension in march. it only comes on at low speed (less than 20 mph) while i'm going over bumps. i can also reproduce the noise by grabbing onto the luggage rack and shack the car real hard. it would come on once or twice a week for maybe a day or two and then goes away.

i brought it in to the dealer in march to get it fixed. they replaced some rubber part in the suspension and the noise went away for about 2 months. it's starting to come back again last week.

does anyone have similar problems?

I have the same problem in my '05. my '02 Tundra did the same thing... always can tell when the windows are down and going over speed bumps in the parking garage at work.

sigh... the noise is back after two rubber mount replacements. it seems like i'm the only one with this problem on a 2006 model. am i just unlucky or what! :(

I occasionally will hear a slight metallic sound coming from the rear suspension with the windows open and going at a slow speed over bumps or ruts on the road.

I never got it checked, and figured it's just normal sound coming from the rear springs or the X-REAS shocks. Some how the 4th gen makes more strange noises than my previous 3rd gen, like the brake swish and brake grab sound. So I just assume all these noises are normal.

i went to the dealer today. they said they found one of the screws holding the rubber bushing together was off centered and was rubbing against the robber bushing. hopefully this fixes it.

I notice noise going over bumps . I mention it to the dealer everytime but they say cant see anything. I heard rumors here once it was brake pads rattling inside the calipers. Everything under my truck is tight , so maybe there is some truth to that.

One way to check it to go over those bumps that make the noise and them go over them at the same speed , but with slight pressure on the brakes. ( I have not tried this myself but will when I get a chance to mess with it.

I've heard it too. Only with the windows down and going over some good size bumps - a metallic clanking sound. I hope someone figures it out.

i'm picking up my car from the dealership in a bit. they said they re-adjusted the whole body mount. hopefully this fixes the problem. i'll keep you guys posted.

i hear a 'clunking' noise when the steering wheel is locked (left or right) and i'm exiting my driveway or leaving the lot of a gas station, etc where there's a bit of a drop. i never hear it if the steering is straight though.

i assume it's supposed to be 'right' although i cringe when i hear the sound. it sounds like i'm not the only one who hears this. i have an '04 but i have never brought it on to be looked at.

In this case, grease the steering stops.

I think I have the same problem. Mine ended up being the isolator bushings in-between the coil springs and the frame. They have to take the coil springs off and replace the isolator bushings. My dealer said they do not sell just the bushings, that they come with the coil springs. Needless to say, I am just living with it now and turning up my stereo. All of my passengers say they can't hear it.
