Suspension or Leveling kit?

Ok, well I can NOT stand that rake in my 08 UrbanRunner it's driving me nuts. Id like to get things leveled out and throw some bigger tires on it. Now, I have been reading and researching and getting advice from all walks of life.

Am I shooting my self in the foot by putting a 2.5/1.5 daystar leveling kit on? Should I just pony up a little more and get a a suspension lift? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I don't want a HUGE lift just level and something clean.

If I don't go with the daystar 2.5/1.5 daystar what lift do I go with? Keep in mind I don't want to be driving down the road in a monster truck just something clean. :lookout:

Do you do any off roading? If not, a simple spacer lift would suit your needs just fine. FJ springs are also a nice setup, they do wonders for the ride.

As much as Id love to say I offroad all the time...well, I Don't. I can really only get out there once every three months or so. It's not to much, lets put it that way.

Would you recommend 2.5/1.5 or just a a spacer for the front to level it out?

That really depends on what your goal is, just a more level look or an actual lifted look. Mine's level, but for those that aren't familiar with the 4runner and it's rake, it appears stock. Either is a good route for a mild off roader. One more thing you'll notice, when the running boards and roof line are level, there is still a larger gap in the wheel well in the rear than the front. This is the preferred look by most, but some remove running boards and shoot for equal wheel gap. IMO, one of the best budget setups is FJ springs with Daystar spacers. Check out the link in my sig for pics of my 03 with 1.5" front lift that levels things out. Also, check out this thread for info on using different Daystar spacers (not the 2.5/1.5 kit).

If you don't plan on doing anything serious off road, you should be fine. It rides great and looks much better IMO.

Looks great!!! Did you replace the springs or are you running stock?

I was thinking I may run a 1'' toytech lift and throw on some FJ springs.... Does anyone know where to get some FJ springs? Also, do I need to go 1'' in the front or 1.5 to just level it out?

Best place for FJ springs is Toyota FJ Cruiser Community, ebay, and craigslist. With a v8 4runner, your best bet is the FJ springs all around and the 1" Toytec leveling spacer. With a v6 4runner, do the FJ springs and 1/2" Toytec spacer. Either would level it out, but the FJ springs give more lift on a v6 4runner so that's the reason for the different spacer size recommendations. You can still go with the lift such as the 2.5/1.5, all depends on what you want. You could also combine the FJ springs with the 2.5/1.5 for a better ride and a 3/2 lift.

Wow! Great! Thanks for the recommendation. The UrbanRunner only comes in a V6 (or so I have seen) So im rolling a V6. I think the 2.5/1.5 might be a tad too much for me. I'm gonna go with the 1'' and FJ Springs...

No I guess the hard part will be trying to find the springs.....

The 1" may be a little much with the six cylinder, but lift gained from fj springs varies from vehicle to vehicle. Expect .75-1" from the springs in the front, .25" on the rear. Take a floor jack and place it under the front, measure then jack the front up to different heights to get a feel for what it looks like, then choose a spacer.

Great thanks for the advice. If I didn't go with the FJ Springs wouldn't you say the 2.5 daystar front spacer should level things out?

BTW here is a picture I took today with my new Roof Rack....

That's a good lookin 4runner! Everyone has their own opinion about what looks good, but imo anything over 1.75 would start looking nose high. Try the jack trick and see what you think. There is adaystar spacer that would give about 2" lift and a 1" toytec both in the classifieds right now, both at decent deals.
