Suspension popping with articulation (video)

Just curious if anybody knows what causes this sound. Ive chalked it up as just a noise it makes while being abused, and im not concerned or trying to stop it, just curious what it is. Driveshaft meeting gastank? LCAs?

Well mine was doing that same thing, I was thinking it was that rear U-Joint, because it is forced to flex when the axle does. I greased the piss out of it and the noise went away. I still need to replace it.

Well last time it was the lca in the front, mine slightly clunks in the rear as well and ive narrowed it down to the rear control arm bushings, might wanna check those out.

I just gave the LCAs a good going through. All the bushings appear new and there was no wiggle in them when it was articulated, nor metal to metal contact.

The Ujoint seems super tight, theres no slop whatsoever

Driveshaft making contact with the gas tank skid under articulation?

I know I recently sheared my driveshaft grease fitting right off from smashing the tank.

It doesn't sound like your shock bottoming out. I would get under there and just look for any metal contact. Jack one tire up so it gets some flex and try to locate. Thats my best guess. :shrug: It sounds as if a piece of metal is popping out and then back to its original form.

On a side note: how many miles are on those DuraTracs. They look like they're pretty worn.

Is the rear sway bar attached? If it is, one of the links could be loose or the bushings on the axle side could be shot

No sway bars anywhere. I looked for metal on metal and couldnt find anything. I will give it a more thorough look tomorrow though.

The Duratracs had half tread on them when I got them a couple months ago, there is about 7/16 of tread left , there's just a lot of sticky/frozen dirt packed in them. Trying to hold out on 315s until I get the manual trans in, these will easily last through the summer but I probably wont wait that long

I seriously think its the driveshaft. I have 8 wraps in the rear of mine and it makes that same sound under hard flex.
