Suspension question

I found a full set, front and rear 05-12 OME Tacoma coils for cheap. Anyone think these will fit? I mean, springs are springs right? Just a matter of ride hight right?

Yeah I'm trying to fit these on a 3rd Gen 4runner. The reason I ask is it seems so many people are trying to fit different kinds of springs on there not knowing if they fit and my questions was Why wouldn't they?? Springs are Springs, as long as they are tall enough right?? I think I am going to pick these up to do an experiment. I have never seen any good reason why so many people think springs won't fit. These are OME's which are to lift a Taco so I see no good reason why they won't lift my 4runner. Any good explanation why it wouldn't? I'm really hoping for someone extremly knowledgable to give a good explaination

Like was already mentioned the rear springs are leaf springs on a Tacoma. It would take modifications to put leaf springs in rear of a 4runner.
 
Okay I got it now. That is why I was a little confused as these springs I found for cheap are for front and rear tacoma, but if they use leaf springs, these obviously can't be for a tacoma. I get it now!! didn't know they had leaf springs till now.
 
So are you trying to dissemble the front OME shock for the Tacoma and use the spring to lift the rear of the 4runner? If you want to use a OME front coil over setup you would need the 1st gen Tacoma ones. Not sure what the difference is but I can compare my 2nd gen Tacoma vs my runner when I get home. For the rear, the Tacoma is a completely different spring setup, left sprung vs linked w a coil. And spring coils can be very different, ie different ID, OD, wire thickness, and length. The front coils and the OME are most likely 2.5od coils where the runner rears a are some where around 3-3.5 if I had to guess.
 
Basically I found someone selling 2 sets of OME Tacoma Springs. Front And Rear. I didn't know Tacoma's use rear leaf springs so these obviously must not be for a tacoma or maybe the fronts are but this guy must be confused about them. I'm trying to get exact part numbers to find out what exactly these OME's are for.

Which OME front springs are they?

The 05+ Taco springs are longer than the 4Runner's so depending on which ones they are, you may get way too much lift from them. I believe the only ones that will work for both are the OME 883's

Like Rip said, the rear shocks will work but the fronts and the rear leafs won't.
 
still trying to figure that out. only numbers he has showing are 2885. still waiting for a response from this guy
 
Xhimsa12x, just wanted to let you know that no, springs are not just springs, as you've asked several times. Spring specs vary widely so they can accommodate many applications.
As you have discovered already, auto suspension springs come in two types, coil and leaf.
Coils vary in wire diameter, overall diameter, free height, fixed or progressive rate and how the ends are finished (open, closed, ground).
Leafs vary in number of leafs, free height, eye to eye length, single or two stage packs, material thickness and width, leaf end styles, eye wrap styles, bushing types and a few other small things.

You can compare the 881/2/3's to the 885's and see whats going on. As other have pointed out, the free height of the 885's is going to be the biggest issue.
 
Screw it, I'm gonna stop being so cheap and just pick up either the toytec springs front and rear or OME's. I think I need and eye to shock adapter too for the bilsteins??
 
Ok..... I did it! Called Toytec, bought a set of front and rear toytec springs with an eye adapter for the bilsteins. Backordered but said it should ship by the middle of the month so FYI for anyon.e wanting the toytec/eibach springs. Soo excited, I can't wait to get these in
