Suspension refresh for newbie - going in the right direction?

Hi Folks,

I have a 2007 4R Sport, V6, 4x2. 90k miles.
Missing out on a Cement TRD Pro, made me re-asses my desire to upgrade now, and have decided to rather wait to see the 6th Gen when it eventually comes out.

In the meantime, for myself, and for potential future buyer - and since I am a bit OCD and since I've just moved up to NY from Dallas, TX and now i have to deal with rust...it seemed like a perfect opportunity to do a refresh.

The truck is going in soon for a compete underbody Rustoleum rust inhibitor spray. At the same time, id like to update the suspension and suspension / chassis bushings...to give it that "new" feeling.

I have read numerous threads - here is where my head is at:

1) Suspension (quote from wheelersoffroad)
Id like a 2.5" lift.
OME 2885 Front Coil Set
OME 90021 Nitrocharger Sport Front Strut, Light Valving
3/8" Polyurethane Top Plate Spacer
1/4" Polyurethane Top Plate Spacer

OME 2895 Coil Pair, Rear
OME 60004 Nitrocharger Sport Rear Shock
OME 150PR10 10mm Rear Trim Packer

Est cost: $1.1k

2) Refresh UCA + Sway Bar links
Since i dont do anything that anybody would consider "offroading" - what would a good OEM upgrade look like? Which brand? Icon, Total Chaos?

Budget: $1000?

3) Chassis / suspension bushing kit.
Energy Suspension Parts? Complete bushing kit
Budget: $250

Any thoughts?

You can get a very good Dobinsons setup for this kind of money. It's an Australian company and their customer service is great. Yell at Dobinsons mike on the forum twith any questions. They also make UCAs

1. I don't think it's a bad plan at all, but I'd like to ask. Why are you thinking of going OME if you aren't offroading your truck? From what i've gathered, it sounds like you just want a refresh of the truck so it handles like new, but aren't going to off road it, or offroad it all that much....?

If thats the case, why not get some KYB struts from rockauto + Moog 4runner springs all around?

Another option, if you're wanting the 2.5" lift, is going Bilstein 5100's + FJC springs or OME springs, or Moogs, etc..

You'll probably be looking at half the cost of what your currently looking at.

2. SPC's are a pretty good upgrade from OEM. Icon, Total Chaos, Camburg, etc are better upgrades, but will cost a bit more.

3. IMO, I don't think you should really look into getting chassis/suspension bushing kits until you swap out your suspension and are really sure about going that route. All you'll be doing is changing the dynamics of how the truck will handle(for better), but you'll be increasing NVH at the same time. Dunno if you want that. At most, you could do sway bar bushings/rear strut bushings.

Yes, right now it is a pavement beater...but since I've 99% made up my mind of keeping it - I am thinking more long term ..and i see offroading in my future.

Regarding OME - Im from South Africa, and OME setups are extremely popular there...and so thats what i know & used in my previous 4R (there they call them Fortuner)...I tend to stick to what i know...until i bump my head on something better!
