Suspension woes...

The fronts are perfect now. The bils on the rear were a bit too soft. OME 60028 was ridiculously harsh. The 60073 are stiff but not as bad as the 60028. Hoping the soften up a bit though...

Anyone had any experience with the 60073s?

Hey man. Have you had more time or any new Input on these 60073 shocks? I just took out my 60028's cause of stiffness with empty truck. I am about to order 5125's but would like to try OME soft ones if they help. I don't mind a sort of firm ride for road 99% of time, however these 28's jar you around something fierce. Being OCD I would like to keep it all OME but if they are any bit stiff like 28's I will go bilstein.

Note I have had both front And rear sway bars disconnected past few days and truck drives reallllllly nice and seems to let truck float around more. Hopefully giving a nice stretch to my front and rear springs. In my mind it hopefully lets it use more travel and break in some. It's a nice soft ride now but to much chassis movement. Going to attach rear sway bar with new extended links when I get them and hope it's a good balance. Running 881/890's and OME shocks. As of now rear stocks because of still ride until new shocks come in. No off road until I get them because there is 2" of droop room.

So, after three years with this setup it only seems to have gotten worse. Empty it beats you to death.


I wanna say the front isn't the problem, it's the rear. If I have my dirtbike carrier, the truck drives beautiful. If the rear is loaded with stuff, same thing.

Anyone have any suggestions on rear shocks to use with the OME 890s?
Previously I had gotten Bilsteins, but the travel was too long, so it would allow the springs to come out. Maybe some other model bilsteins or another shock?

There are now Bilstein 5100's that are made specifically for the 3rd gen 4Runner. Those might be your best bet.

The earlier 5100's that a lot of guys used were either Tundra rears or 4th/5th gen 4Runner rears - both of which are about 2" longer than stock compressed and extended.

There are now Bilstein 5100's that are made specifically for the 3rd gen 4Runner. Those might be your best bet.

The earlier 5100's that a lot of guys used were either Tundra rears or 4th/5th gen 4Runner rears - both of which are about 2" longer than stock compressed and extended.

They are a standard part number you can look up on the Bilstein website, so any Bilstein dealer should be able to get them for you.
