Yup, theres always that one guy in the group that wants to push his vehicle a tad too far! From Fords advertising and marketing, i believed that the Raptor was a "mildly" built prerunner(wider track width, triple bypass shocks) that could handle a little more than what ive seen and read. Ive seen a few around town and they look bada$$(especially with their lumber racks! :wtf:) but if its a DD, why spend the extra money for the Raptor? Nice trucks though!

For everyday DD use: Tundra or a regular F-150 but not the Raptor, too much for a DD. :peace:
 
My dad has a rock warrior. They are nice for the money. It has all the stuff need and doesn't have all the extras. The thing about it tho is the touchy gas pedal. You just put your foot on the gas pedal at a light and it can spin a tire. I do like the lower gearing of the rock warrior for off road use, but stock it sits to low. Went to change the oil and my chest almost got stuck under the frame.
 
First off, the disclosures: I've never driven a Raptor or a Tundra, and I'm definitely not a Ford person.

I'd take the Raptor. Although I'm sure the Tundra would be much easier to live with, the Raptor is just awesome. I would absolutely love to get my hands on one and see if I could get it stuck.
 
i'd read that the Raptor is just about as wide as a dually, with the wider track and all. i don't think the Tundra is that wide - having to thread a Raptor through the pickup line(s) at my son's school or out through the narrow side roads just would be too nerve-wracking on a daily basis. i gave up the idea of getting a dually for a work truck just because it would never make it through my son's school.

Having said that... one of the other parents does have a velociraptor for a DD. dang thing is nice... and sounds vicious.

if i could convince my wife to pick up our son at school, i'd probably have to go with the Raptor.
 
I'm the biggest Toyota fan I know but I would take the Raptor too. However I don't really think its a fair comparison. Thats just a Tundra with decals were as the Raptor is an F150 on steroids.

As for the whole bent frame thing...I just wouldn't beat the **** out of it expecting miracles. It's just like if I owned a Bugatti with a bazilion HP, I wouldn't drive 1000mph every I go, thats just asking for trouble. I would simply treat it like I treat my 4runner and enjoy ever minute of it.
 
Raptor for sure...if it was b/w those two. However, i rather get a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and put the rest of the money in the bank or any other hobby you like.

OR, buy a used Land Cruiser or G-wagen (G550)...since gas is apparently not a problem.
 
If you plan on leaving the truck stock, get the Raptor. But if you wanna mod it, get the Tundra. As stated, TRD supercharged, that Tundra would wreck a Raptor. Of course, lift and tires would be awesome too. I've seen lifted Tundras before, they look sweet on the roads. Just yesterday I saw a Tundra with a nice exhaust. Looked and sounded great.

But then again, a Tundra in the same punishing video would bend like a Pretzel! Remember, with the Tundra, only the front third is boxed...the middle and back are C-frame.
 
Hm, Im kind of surprised at all the people saying they would take the raptor.. Ive seen many of them up close and see about 3-4 on a weekly basis, they look a bit overdone(20 vents in the hood/stickers all over it) which throws off the "looks bada$$" argument for me.. and I think f150s are overpriced from the start so yeah youre only adding 5-6 grand to the MSRP but itd still be cheaper to buy a Tundra and change the suspension out. Maybe Im missing something but if youre really considering desert racing I would not wanna be in a stock raptor.. And as for a daily driver.. There are plenty of vehicles that perform better on road and look better doing it. Good luck with your decision but you might also want to consider the Ram Power Wagon since you want a supped up factory truck and arent afraid to go American made. :thumb3:

Of course it would, as would every truck frame! The point is that Ford advertises that you can desert race at high speeds, so I'd assume you could...without damage. False advertising! :redbrick:
 
(Disclaimer: I do not have personal experience with either of these) This is one of those rarest of occasions where I would take the Ford over the Toyota. The Raptor is NOT just an F-150 with nice tires and stripes--it has a full custom suspension designed for extreme articulation. The Yota, as I understand it, is basically the stock truck with some mild upgrades. Quality-wise, I haven't dealt with the newest Fords, but I have been around plenty of fairly recent models, and EVERY ONE had problems with interior equipment, whether steering column electrics, ignition switch, door seals, door warning switches, window switches, etc.. Toyota (as with nearly all Japanese makes) rarely has any issues where the driver interacts with the vehicle--their switches will still work just fine 20 years from now. Still, given the wealth of changes to the Raptor over pretty much all other offerings of light trucks, I think it would be worth the risk to experience all that suspension and drivetrain fun. Oh, and as for the frame issue--it sounds pretty clear that the damaged ones were in the hands of morons who expected the truck to be something it's NOT--a fully caged and gusseted trophy truck. I doubt you'd EVER see an issue there, even with fairly hard use. Anyway, that's my two cents worth...
 
Has anyone got realistic prices? I believe getting a 5.7 Tundra TRD supercharged runs about $5-6k (which has a warranty). That would get it to 504HP and 550lb-ft torque. Which is much more than the stock Raptor's power output. I am curious to see if anyone has looked into actual prices other than estimates you see online, especially since it varies for location.
 
For the amount you would spend on the supercharger, long travel kit, shocks, wheels, and and labor. It would be cheaper to buy the raptor if its under 45k
Supercharger is about 8k installed at a dealer
LT kit would be around 3k from camberg or total chaos
Shock at least 3k depending on what you want.
Wheels and tires 1.5k ish
And fender flares painted 500 min.

Prices are off the top of my head from some quick it would easily be over 10k in parts and labor. But it would definintly be a raptor killer


Personally I would build the tundra than buy a cookie cutter truck
Those are just general numbers

Maybe a 2010 with 40k on it. Build a Raptor with "some" options and its just shy of $54k. Build a DC Tundra Rock Warrior with almost every option for just under $40. $14k can buy a lot!

Yeah and I'm mostly talking about performance stuff. So rims and paint probably don't apply there.
 
Well I found one at a local ford dealer. Silver, graphics, loaded. Pretty badass. They just got in. Don't have all details but plan on checking it out on Saturday. I'm curious to see in person. I'm sure a test drive will be in order.
