Swap 3rd row for cargo deck

Is it possible to remove the 3rd row seats in a 2013 4Runner and replace with the sliding cargo deck/tray??? I just bought a new 2013 4Runner but was shocked to find out there is a pretty wide "hole" between the 3rd row seats and 2nd row seats when they are all folded down. I have 2 large dogs and have visions of them getting their leg stuck in that hole. From what I've read, it sounds like if you DON'T have the 3rd row seats, you have a nice flat surface when the back seats are folded down.

Any ideas are welcome.....

To eliminate the hole, sit in the rear seats, and do like you would do on a front seat to slide it back. Slide the seats back up all the way, and the hole won't be there anymore when all seats are down.

Been there, done that. Even when you put the 2nd row seats all the way back, there is still a gap between the 2nd and 3rd row when they are all folded down. The gap is big enough for me to put my arm through, so I'm concerned about dog legs getting caught in there.

Have you considered measuring and fabricating something to cover the gap? How often do you plan to use the 3rd row?

Considering that you paid $1100 for that 3rd row, it would seem a better option to try to find some way to make it work rather than rip them out. What about some sort of gate to keep the dog/s further back? Or just keep the 2nd row up. They need the whole cargo area?

I would take it in. Something may be blocking the 2nd row from going all the way back. In our 2012 there is barely 1/2in gap. There is enough room to get your arm in with the 2nd row all the way forward. I've seen a 2014 on the lot with third row and there was no gap.


After re-reading your post do you mean there's a gap between the second and third row when the second row is folded down? If that is what you mean then that is normal from what I've seen on my truck.

gap when folded down is approx. 1.5 inch. Not enough to get my arm in, dunno about his... but anyway, my guess is that the seats are not completely aft.
