Has anyone converted the manual AC controls to the automatic ones from a limited truck? IF so, Is it easy to do? What's the approximate cost to do it?

its very costly and apparently a PITA to pull off.

most people just say "you shouldve bought a limited"
 
I would have gotten the limited, but I got a real good deal on this one.. couldn't pass it up.

I didn't think I'd hate the slide controls this much..

would the turn controls fit in nicely or is this another PITA process?
 
Going to the digital control setup will cost you at least $1,200. I throughly checked into this and it's really not worth it.

You may not realize it but the 96-97 "slider" controls are the easiest to use. They are the only controls you can adjust with ONE FINGER.
 
would swapping in the twist controls be a pain? I like those better then the sliders, tho the digital controls is the way to go for me.. but at $1200 its not worth it.. maybe for $400 :)
 
Well, you might think the twist controls look better, but they aren't as easy to use. You can use the slider with one finger, and when you get used to that, you get spoiled.

Changing to turn style would probably be $600-$800.

i had the slide controld on my 2000 SR5...have and 03 limited now, and id rather have the simpler slide controls...i never use the climate controls since i change the temp all the time dependingon weather/windows open etc...may be good for long trips but thats about it...save your money...
 
does your slider control work smoothly? Mine is pretty tought to push around select the right setting. Most of the time I can't locate the sliders without looking directly at them. Also if the cup holders out out, forget it, major PITA changing the controls.

I miss my lexus climate control :(

Yes. You might need to pull out your dash and check the screws. If wires from behind are touching things, it will be harder to move.
 
Do you have a aftermaket Headunit? If so that might be pinching something. After CC installed my New HU the fan would not turn off, they fixed it right away. A hose had been pinched behind the new radio. Could be the problem.
 
I have the dial controls (not slider controls) for the 3rd gen 4runner...I was thinking about putting them in my 96 4runner that had the sliders but I never got around to it....I have since sold my 96 4Runner and have no need for this extra part....if anyone is interested in it...pm me :)

UPDATE: SORRY BUT THE A/C CONTROL IS SOLD

here are the controls

it uses the same A/C button (just slides out)

the wires in the pic go to harness that can be unplugged (they were just cut during removal by the guy I bought it from)

I wanted this because it has "clicks" for the temp adjustment because with my sliders i never seemed to land exactly where I wanted


UPDATE: SORRY BUT THE A/C CONTROL IS SOLD

while the sliders may only require 1 finger, the 2 fingers i use is not exactly grueling!

i like the way the 01s and 02s are set up, personally...
 
ok, took the truck to the shop to get the system and the AC unit to get put in the truck, turns out the newheater controls will not work with the 97 system.. this blows..

would the 2001 knob unit fit into a 1997? Anyone try this kind of a swap?

What swap did they try to do?
 
I had baught the AC controls for a 2000 4R with the 2 twist knobs instead of the sliders. They tried putting in the 2000 controls into my 1997 4R
