Swap Driver and Passenger Upper Seat Bolsters?

I just took my front seats completely apart to clean the cloth. The seat bottom and back foam are basically the same. The passenger seat back even had the same cut out for the lumbar adjustment.
I bought a pair from local junk yard for cheap and used the passenger foam from two different trucks on what I put back together.
Just bought a used driver's side non-lumbar upper foam on EBay - the only used one available for $54. I will switch it with my upper lumbar foam which, from YouTube videos, seems to have an additional plastic piece and pad that are killing my back. Worth the $54 to not have to tear apart the passenger side too. The used part is probably not as soft as a new one, which costs twice as much, and I can always use the passenger side if I need to.
Probably won’t attack this until temps are warmer but I’ll report back.

the seat back with the lumbar have an extra piece of foam between the adjustable plastic lumbar support and the back of the foam. Also, the metal frame has felt glued onto the outside edges to protect the foam from tearing. in the seats I took apart the felts came unglued and moved and the metal tore into the foam. Use some contact cement to glue the felt back on. you may want to put some protection inside the foam to protect from the metal and possible some extra 1" thick foam behind the factory foam?

I will take a look when I get it apart. Right now the biggest issue for me is the shape of the seat-way too much lumbar in the area without the lumbar support even activated. I just need a flatter profile for the seat back.
Can I remove the upper seat covering and foam without removing the seat from the truck? I know the seat only has four bolts, so is it easier all the way around to just take it out?

You can pull the upper covers with the seats in the car. Unclips at bottom back, then two ring clips halfway up. Sleeves for the headrests have clips at bottom of tubes holding them. Although you don't need to pull the covers completely off past the headrest tubes.
I, too, found the amount of lumbar curve ridiculous. Like driving with a basketball behind me. I pulled the little extra piece of foam out, and added a thin piece of foam above the lumbar area so that my upper back leans into something other than air space. Much more comfortable.
Glad to know it wasn’t just me! I see many complaints about these seats. Typically I need some lumbar support and often adjust it close to max in other cars, but you’re right about the curve being ridiculous. I have changed seat covers in other cars so I know all about the hog rings and using zip ties instead. Good to know this should be an easy swap as long as the leather is warm enough!

ha I actually went and got anther drivers seat and swapped just the back with the lumbar because my passenger was complaining there was no lumbar.
the backs are 100% swap able between driver and passenger.
Now if you figure out a way to get a height adjust bottom on the passenger side... I want to know how you did it.

Yes, the top is connected underneath with plastic "U" channels , undo them and peel it upward turning it inside out.
the cover will stop at the head rest clips. you are going to need to get behind the foam and squeeze the clip to remove. Be careful reaching in there. the sheet metal edges are pretty sharp and you can get a bad cut (I did)
