Swapping a 97 front diff into my 2002 4Runner..

What do I need to swap over from the 02 diff that the 97 doesn't have?..

A vacuum line? Or accuator?

I'm having a shop do it but they have questions I can't answer..

Can anyone help with this answer please????

The 97 uses vacuum servos and the 01-02 uses electric actuators that is controlled by the 4x4 ecu. I'm not sure if the diff housing pre 2000 had provisions for the electric actuators; I would think they wouldn't. Someone with access to the FSM for both years could tell you better In that case you'll have to have the shop swap the gears into the 02 housing and reset the ring and pinion depth and backlash. They'll want to use new bearings and seals and whatnot.

Yea the 97 uses vacuum and cant be used on a 2002. Im not sure but I bet you could just use the electic setup from the 2002. I would bet they are completely interchangeable but thats just a guess. maybe pull them both and look. Should be a simple process

I think all you would have to do is swap over actuators.. Or probably easier to just swap the axle tube. It's like 4 bolts. The front diffs themselves should all be the same on all 3rd gens.
