Swapping to a750f transmission

Stuck CAPS

New member
I'm planning on, in the future, swapping to 4WD. My problem, however, with the transmission, are two things.

1. Will this transmission fit up to an FJ transfercase (Auto) or will I need to make modifications to either of them? I looked at MysticZ's thread, and it didn't seem like he had to, but I want to make sure, as his thread was a little ambiguous.

2. Where can I find a 4wd v6 dash set up for the 5spd? I've been looking, but can't seem to find one online.

I think it would make sense to sell yours and get a 4WD truck. It is just too complicated and expensive to convert to 4WD with all of the electronics involved.

Sorry to say, but you're going to hate everyone's reply, but there simply isn't a cost effective way to do what you want. You will be much better off selling and getting a 4WD from the start.

You will have multiple ECU's to replace, sensors, harness, hardware, etc. that will just make this project too cost prohibitive.

I say you go ahead with it. Post up costs of everything. Parts and labor. That way, we can make it a stickey and REALLY prove to people of why not to do this. LOL

I wish you luck, and would like to see these conversions done. I'll just never do one.

Aside from those fist two responses.

theres a few people who have done it and it's way more cost effective to convert your own truck than it would be to get into another car loan.

As memebers on here and toyota120 convert to straight axle swaps up front they will gladly sell there old front drive train componants to A.) help out the 2wd guys and B.) offset the cost of there SAC's

Also members will as well change up transfer cases to dual cases for lower gearing and 2wd capability in the V8's. so your plan is completely feasible. the transfercases between the V6 and the V8 are identical except for the V8 Transfer case doesnt have the fork to switch over to 2wd.

you can purchase the dash and switch equipment from villagetoyotaparts.com I would imagine them to be the most inexpensive.

If you have trouble finding used front end equipment on the forums, go to the junk yards or pull a parts and start searching. you'll be able to get the items you need relatively cheap compared to buying new. The only new parts I would purchase would be CV half shafts and new hub bearings with flanges already installed for 4wd 4runners (you can find those on ebay for about 220 per side.)

The tricky tricky part is the ECU or the 4wd ECU actually. as you switch the selector knob in the V6 trucks your sending a signal to A.) engage the transfercase int 4wd and B.) engage the ADD in the front axle of the V6's. The ADD is the automatic differential disconnect. (its what allows 2wd in the V6's)

The V8 transfer cases are full time 4wd so their front axles don't have ADD. but basicly your going to have some electrical work to sort out and perhaps install a 4wd ECU..

The reason I was looking to switch to the FJ transfer case is to eliminate the need for the selector switch electronics, as it's a manual, twin stick T-case. I feel if I get these parts even slightly used, I could do it a lot cheaper than new, although I agree with Aha on the hub assy and CV halves new. You say it's more cost effective to buy a 4wd? I'll either have to trade and pay more on a potentially higher milage vehicle, or pay a LOT more on a lower milage vehicle. With everything pretty, if not, new, it cost MysticZ roughly 6000 dollars. I'm planning on getting salvaged parts, where TOY2G spent roughly 2700 on all parts besides tranny and tcase brand new. It'd be hard to do, take a while, and probably cost a lot of money, but It'd also be a cool project, and get me some nice forum cred ;)

Does the FJ have the same V6 engine as yours?

I just read through the guy's name you mentioned in your first posts build thread and it seems completely doable. I would PM him for details and pics of his setup he will definitely have all the answers you need.
