Sway Bar Bushing

One is cracked and working its way out. I'm gonna go and see about getting it fixed (and I don't want to do it myself as the bolts are ****ed).

My usual shop is WAY busy right now, and I hate going to other garages because everything is always double the price one would reasonably expect. You need this and this and this done, too, and we have to do it this way, and it's going to take longer than we thought, etc., etc.

How much should it cost to get this fixed? And, would a sharp metal clunk sound while turning right be caused by this bushing (the bushing is on the driver's side)? Always sounds to worry about.

The sound is probably that bushing. Mine clunked like that when it got loose before and yours is shot. It takes about 5-10 minutes to replace both of the mounts yourself, even with the rust. If you break the bolts, it'll just fall off. Buy new mounts, new bushings, 2 screws, 2 nuts and you're good (the other 2 screws and nuts are already attached to the new mounts). I got all that stuff a few months ago from the dealer and it was ~$50 for everything.

Yea I would do this job myself. Pretty easy to do. The bushings have an opening so you just slip it around the bar. No need to remove anything else. Hit up the dealership or Napa for the parts.

Mine is the same way, although it does not make any noise. My dealership wanted $16 for each of those wrap around bushings, I am sure you could find the OEM ones cheaper on the internet, if it was worth it to you.

PB blaster the night before and I would maybe get new nuts to put back on just because.

Yeah I just did mine yesterday. Not to bad except I had taken my swaybar completely off so it was a little bit more involved.

I just need to get under the truck with some calipers and make sure my bars are the same size as 4runners, and I'll be ordering both front and rear sets from here. I noticed one of the front bushings was all squished out last time I was under the truck.

Just replaced my sway bar bushings after replacing end links about a month ago. The underside of my Runner looks like yours Maritimer, typical northern rust everywhere! The driver's side was a piece of cake (with a good shot of PB Blaster) and I was able to replace it in about 10 minutes. Passenger side was a royal PITA and rusted tight, I couldn't get a good grab on it with the exhaust in the way. Had to take it in to get done at my mechanic. All-in $40.00 Canadian for the OEM parts and $20.00 to my mechanic. Was expecting a huge difference in the way the front end feels but not really that noticeable still glad to have it done.

I wish they could build a rust-proof vehicle. I'd be willing to pay. You should've seen the sway bar on the crap 2002 CR-V I had for a year. It was never undercoated, and the bar, instead of even having paint left on it, was actually just flaking rust like a pastry. :wow:

Confirmed today that I have 26mm front and 19mm rear swaybars, same as the 4runner. Ordered swaybar bushings and steering rack bushings from Wheelers.

1 inch energy suspension front sway bar bushings is what I am running. They are great, cheap and include the bracket since I also had to cut mine off. The rears are 3/4 inch.
