Sway bar bushings

Searched around nothing pin pointed, so here:

While I'm upgrading the suspension, I might as well replace the sway bar bushings for front and back correct? If so, what product did you go with? Could you notice a more stable difference? My bushings now are really dry-rotted I noticed on the rear and front, plus they're cheap insurance for front end.

Another question, should I mess with the control arm bushings while I'm at it? I haven't had problems with cv's but since they have 210K on them, and I'm about to lift the front, should I go ahead with those bushings as well? Or would new ones put more stress on a cv somehow? Since the cv's have most likely been use to the old bushings, and with the lift and new bushings would I be more likely to break a CV or does that more or less depend on how hard I go out and 4Wheel it?

you can replace them if they are worn.

heres a good place to get the front stuff: Anti-Sway Kit for Toyota 4Runner from Wheeler's Off-Road

i used the moog stuff from advance auto for the rear. theres prob a beter place to get the bushings for the rear.

as far as CV's go, dont get rid of your Toyota ones (if they are really OEM), rebuild them. toyota cv's are made differently than aftermarket and are stronger. I recently learned this the hard way after breaking the splined portion of the CV shaft inside my front DIFF. $$$$$$

-dont know what to tell you on the control arm bushings.

-also, on the CV's, you are prob going to leak some grease from the boots after the lift just due to the new angle. i made the mistake of not putting my diff drop (1") on until i was forced to (due to extreme CV boot wear and excessive vibration from highway speeds). Do it when you do the lift. your factory skid will go right back on with a little coaxing.


PS- i kick myself in the rear every time i think about that $10 or $15 core charge i got for my original toyota CV's.

Replacing the control arm bushings can be a nightmare, but some have done it successfully. Here's a thread where they talk about it and a couple people that were successful:

I think I would rather just find lower mileage control arms with the bushings already in there, but see if yours actually need to be replaced 1st. I have 204K on mine and they look better than a buddy's truck with 130K or so.

Yeah I double checked all bushings look good except the front sway links, I will go ahead and replace them. The rears weren't as bad as I had thought. And I was looking at the work in replacing the CA bushings, and I'm taking your advice brian and just gonna let them be since they look and feel fine now after 200k+.

Thanks for the input. Will order Wheelers bushings they sell along with the new bumpstops.
