Thanks for that LawnDart. The photos on the PelfreyBilt website don't show much, like how it attaches and what materials and shapes provide the strength of the mount. Do you have any photos of your build? It's not cheap either, at $575. It's a lot to spend on something that's not illustrated or described well. Here's a link to Pelfreybilt:

A photo of your Factor 55 Flatlink attached to the cable or rope would be great. I can't quite picture how these work.
Edit: There's a photo of the F55 Flatlink installed on the website. I assume it takes a shackle to tie it into a strap or other cable wrapped around a rock, tree or another vehicle.

How did you get a copper-brown 4Runner? I've never seen that color on a T4R before. It's great! I'd buy one of these if I thought they were available.

His 4runner is inferno, it's a bright red-orange.

Steel plate. We powder coated it for added protection. It's made by Pelfrey so it's built like a tank, without weighing like one either.

And yes you run a shackle through it, makes it a lost safer to work with vs the hooks which can refuse to close when you have thick straps or ropes through the eyelet.

Thanks for the link. That's a good deal at 20% off. I may have to wait and pay full price. I still need rock sliders, Husky floor mats, wheels tires and a lift before I go for a winch. Here in So Cal the winch has less use than the other items. Priorities. :juggle:

There must have been a color shift in the first photo. A White Balance error. Now I see the inferno orange in LawnDart's latest post.

Because winching with hooks sucks big time. I used to have a hook on my old 1978 FJ, and the F55 setups are so much safer and lower profile.

I think it depends how you're winching. If you're parked at the top of an obstacle pulling the next 10 vehicles up - the hook is pretty handy. When I was a trailmaster of an offroad club I spent some time on that end of things. Having an 8274 that's 10 times as fast as most winches doesn't hurt either. Both should be strong enough, and both work pretty easily with a shackle if you need it.

Fortunately it's easy to go either way as long as you have a good thimble on your rope you can swap between a hook and shackle in a few seconds.

The detailed description for the 5th Gen, 2015 hidden winch mount says, "Solenoid Bracket is NOT included with this product and the use of a wireless remote style winch is recommended. Otherwise, it’s up to you to relocate the solenoid pack so that it is accessible for winch remote control."

You don't need to remote mount the solenoid pack. It's really easy to remote just the plug up inside the engine bay. You can look at my version if you want something easy. I added an additional relay and master kill switch in a box up by the firewall with a remote plug and left the solenoid box down on the winch. This is also better from an electrical line loss perspective. Keep the solenoid as close to the motor as possible so you have the shortest distance for your high load wires.

Want to put a M8000 with synthetic line on my Totally stock TEP. do you think it's possible without dramatic front end drop/issue/etc. with a hidden winch mount and winch with synthetic ?

Dramatic droop? No. But it will cause some sagging over time. Not a huge amount but it is a lot of weight on a stock suspension.
