I just bought :fear: a whole rear axle housing from a 2016-2017 Tacoma with 3.91 and locker to swap the 3rd members out with my 2013 4runner. Will this fit? How is the locker wired?

Not gonna work (in 4wd) without a re-gear in the front, or in the rear. OEM is 3.73. I know the FJ axle assembly was a bolt on, but I don't know about the Taco -- my guess is you'll need some sort of custom fab. The diff should be a nice improvement if it's the 8.8 though.

No. It almost certainly will not work. They're not the same size differential. 3rd gen Tacomas are 8.75" ring gear. 4Runners are 8.2" ring gear. But I say give it a shot. If it fits - awesome. New option for us!

Also the new locker is internal operation. I have no idea how the solenoid is controlled through the ECU.

What I am very curious about - if you're willing to try it - is to see if the 4runner outer assembly (bearings, brakes, and axle shafts) will bolt onto the Tacoma housing. If that's the case - then it's a very viable upgrade to the 8.2. It will still require all new mounting hardware to go from leaf spring to link and coils. But it's a stronger axle.

Good luck.

You're right Runn4est! The front and rear differentials (being different gear ratios) will turn the drive-shafts at two different speeds; which is just why we swap the ring gears in some mods, to increase/decrease torque at the wheels (depending on the objective, higher torque or better MPG)!

So metzger be sure to match your front ...&... rear ring-gear/pinion sizes so they'll turn at the very same speed. 'Best to you',

If he ended up doing this and getting it to work you can buy a E-locker wiring harness from 12Voltguy.com and the kit bypassess the ECU and directly plugs into the e-locker and power from the battery.

Re-fab the spring mounts (for coils), re-gear the diff (to match front) and wire harness and it should work.
