Switch from Tacoma to 4Runner??

Seriously - it has been amazing to be able to throw axles, furniture, and other dirty crap in the back of the Tacoma as opposed to the cargo area of the 4runner.

I didn't read all pages of this thread, so I am sure it has been mentioned, but if you watch craigslist, I am sure you can pick up a used 3rd gen for cheap. They do not hold value nearly as well as the Tacomas, so I am sure with a little bit of patience you can hang onto the Tacoma as well.

^^^This statement about having a bed, even though a short one, is the only thing not allowing me to let go of my truck so easily! Even if it's just a few small, stinky, oily car parts, it's such a breeze to throw in the back.

But ya, I've been keeping an eye out for a low cost 4runner to see if I can swing buying it... But then, of course, comes pursuading my wife that I can keep 3 vehicles (I also have a POS camry as a daily driver to save gas)...

I appreciate your input and you got some legit points, though I don't have an extra cab, I have a double cab tacoma. Have, as in currently have. I'm debating the switch to a 4runner.

On a side note, I'm bummed bc I missed out on what I feel was a prett good deal today...
2000 4runner Highlander Edition, 65k, 4x4, 5 speed, E-locker, TRD Supercharger- $11k... Guy beat me to it and put a deposit over the phone with the car lot!!!

Wish I can say a similar one will come again, but I have never seen something THAT good :jaw drop: I'd follow up with the car lot just in case the buyer changes his mind.

I was originally looking for a Taco when I bought my runner. Having a truck bed would be nice for certain things, but over all, I love the room inside and I can still fold the seats down and have a lot of cargo room. Plus I like the way the rear axle suspension is set up better than leaf springs, but you really can't go wrong with either.

I really liked my Tacoma while stationed in the SE. When I got orders to Wyoming I knew I wanted a 4wd to do more exploring. If I would have received orders to Cali, I'd have kept the Prerunner and went long travel. I can count on one hand how many times I used the bed of that Tacoma.

I do agree that I don't use the back seats much other than inside storage, though I will be more in the near future when my baby is born.. and I'm just not one to rock camper also- that's just ugly!

Having one of each would be my ultimate dream, though after trying numerous times to convince my wife, she just aint having any of it...

I'm not single... married with 2 kids.. All I had to do, is convince the wife that her car was a piece of crap, and that we needed a Tacoma! I used words like "4X4 is better for the winter", "we need the box to haul stuff" (dirt, lumber, etc..), and quoted the reliability of the brand.

Not sure of your situation.... (what she currently drives, etc..), but just to name a couple of advantages to having the 4Runner... more interior room, amazingly reliable, great to keep stuff that we haul out of the weather, etc...

At the end of the day, it's all about creative negotiation... Don't just show up with it in the driveway, (at least not yet.. lol), try negotiating with facts...

That being said... I waited nearly 7 years to buy my 05 Tacoma... but now I'm negotiating about mods I want to do to it... (we need a lift honey... the stock suspension is tired... )

I had an '01 Xtra cab and sold it to get into a 4Runner. Needed the added passenger space and didn't want the short bed of the 1st gens nor the added size of the 2nd gens with the quad cab and 6ft bed. I LOVE my Runner, but miss my Taco all the time. No substitute for being able to throw whatever you want into the bed.

I will say one of the pluses of the switch is that I get far less calls to help people move...
