Switching to 4WD

Shift on the fly to 4WD high range. Stop and put in neutral to shift to 4WD low range. I'm not sure if you have to stop to take it out of low range.

Really the best way to do it is look in the owners manual. Or use the search. Or google. Or sell the truck and get a 2WD. If you don't have an owners manual and don't know how to put your truck in 4WD, at least do yourself a favor and get an owners manual.
Isn't there a sticker in the truck that tells you how to do that? Can't remember if those gens had stickers like my 1st gen does

yes, you do. the gears will be spinning different speeds, just the same as going IN to low.

What would someone do in the mountains if they didn't have the internet? They would RTFM!
I always come to a full stop when messing with the transfer case. I know some vehicles say it's fine to shift on the fly at certain speeds but it feels like there must be some additional wear vs shifting at a stopped position.
I suppose there are times when you may need to engage 4wd while moving but i always suck it up and come to a complete stop.
