Sylvania Silver Star Headlights

HI I boutht Sylvania Silverstar Headlights about 5 month ago. and now the driver side dont work. if i turn my hibeam on it works
so i repleased it with oem light. Sylvania Silverster lights dont last very long.

i wasted my money on them and they sucked, i wanted that blue xenon tint to it, nope, they looked basically oem, eurodesignz are what im using now, and their awesome.

It's going to be hit and miss on the life of most aftermarket lights but my Silverstars are going on almost a year and a half and they are a big improvement over OEM especially the H3 fog replacements.
 
Silverstars dont suck. Also, they never claimed to last a long time. In fact, they state that the average life of the bulb is UP TO 1 year, under normal driving conditions. Go the their F.A.Q. page on this link, and read question 2 and youll see.

Remember though, our 4runners have daytime running lights, which shortens the life of the bulb even more.

Additionally, they dont suck just because they dont have a blue tint to them. I do not think you did ANY research before you bought the silverstars. They dont claim to have a blue tint to them. This is what it says verbatim on their website;

Actually Lee is not correct, my 00 has the DRL's. All 00 and perhaps 99 as well equiped w/ abs have DRL's.

I just got January's issue of Consumer Reports and they basically said that ALL the aftermarket bulbs suck. Didn't even work as well as OEM.

in what sense did it say aftermarket bulbs sucked? life expectancy? because i agree with that :D but if they are saying that they are NOT brighter than OEM bulbs, i have to disagree. i own the silver stars, and there is no doubt in my mind that they are brighter, and work better, than the factory bulbs that were in. i installed them and didnt tell my gf. a week later when i was following her on the highway to drop her car off at the shop, she asked me when we met at the shop if my high beams were on. i said no. she asked if i put new headlights in or something. and shes knows NOTHING about cars and even noticed they were brighter.
 
Good posting Alpine.

I can get a pair of Silverstars for around $35 and if they only lasted a year I'd still buy them since they were definetly a worthy improvement over OEM.

They tested 5 major brands on three vehicles. Someone posted the article after I made the same comment in another thread.

Alpine, "sucked" is my word not Consumer Reports but all the aftermarket bubls were not as good in all the test and on all the vehicles, except one test on one vehicle. There were subjective tests and many objective tests. Subjectivly you could argue with the results but they also did objective tests for distance and brightness and such.

If they were an improvement I wouldn't mind paying for them, as a matter of fact I have a set on the truck now but I'm going back to OEM when they burn out. They are whiter but that is about it I think.
 
I'd never buy another pair of silverstars again. They burned out on me about 6 months of owning. I didn't bother trying to get a refund or replacement because it wasn't worth it to me. I just put back my stock bulbs... I'll try another brand when the stockers burn out...

I did like the appearance of the silverstars though, but short life is a big downer.

You know what part of it might be is that you are posting in a 3rd gen forum and comparing your 4th gens whose OEM lighting is going to be much better than the OEM 3rd gen's headlamps and using Silverstars on the newer ones might not yield as noticeable difference as they do on 3rd gens.

Coupled with the Silverstar H3s in the fogs and the headlamps I notice enough of a difference at night on dark roads but their rain performance could be better. Snow wasn't too bad a problem tho'.

Remember that I also just compared them directly back to back with my mom's stock bulbs on her '99.

I'd like to try a set of yellow bulbs in the fogs and see if that helps;I can get a cheap set for about $20 on ebay.

Doh, you're right. I usually just hit the new posts button and never realize what forum I'm in and it isn't the first time I've made that mistake. I'll have to pay more attention to which forum I'm responding to.

ah, i was basing that off the fact that i thought ed had an 00.. but his is a 99.... his does not have drl's.
 
Head lights

Just my opinion: if you want a light that is going to last a long time turn towards PIAA. My 6000K 60/55w lights have lasted me almost 2 years. Keep in mind if the bulb is touched with your skin you reduce the life of your light bulbs. Hope this helps. Good luck
 
i was wondering if anyone in here knew where i could find some headlights by the name of Eurodesignz, they were sold on ebay a while back but i cant seem to find them now
