Sylvania Silver Star/Lumnics Yellow fogs

Ok so I have had a few PM's about the headlights and fog lights I am running here are a few pics from my crappy blackberry lol The high and lows are just regular silver stars and the fog light bulbs are luminics yellow fogs ordered from Luminics JDM Yellow (H11) Headlight Bulbs|Luminics Headlight Bulbs|Luminics Lighting Products

and the silver stars look almost HID, I have never ran these type bulbs. Are they as bright as factory? I can only assume they are.

Looks good! Did you use the plug and play wire harness with the bulbs? Are they higher voltage than the stock ones? I'm looking at a bulb upgrade myself.

FYI, long life is not typically an attribute of those bulbs. I used to use them quite a bit, and stopped because of this. I had some last ~1 yr, and some go in 60 days. YMMV.

They are a slight improvement in light however, over stock.

I've seen many reviews on Amazon regarding the short life of these bulbs. It's making me hesitate upgrading from my dim stock bulbs.

They have never failed on me ran them in my 04 SR5 for 2 years never had one blow and they have been in my wifes Rav4 for alittle over a year no problems yet. As far as brightness they are way brighter then stock if you get the ultras those seem even brighter. The only problem is the white light gets kinda drown out in rain and snow but if you run yellow fogs you don't have that problem.

Just lay on the ground under the car to swap them out not to hard.

I was thinking you had to loosen the bumper cover from the wheel well to get to the fog lights, but I'm not certain. You can look it up.

When all else fails, try reading your Owners Manual. It has instructions for changing the fog lamp bulbs.

Unless the limited and sr5 are way different from the Trail there should be no reason to loosen the bumper cover.

Limited/SR5 changeout

My first post in a long time!

It isn't hard at all. I have an LE and switched to Silverstar fogs. The only thing you have to do is unscrew a few of the fender liner screws, turn the steering wheel to one side to give you better access to the fog lamps, then bend the fender liner out of the way. The bulb is exactly the same as the headlight low beam (H11) so it's a simple plug-and-play.

By the way, this is all in the manual!

Here's a pic of the fog lamp from the rear so you get an idea. There's also a knurled nut to the bottom right of the bulb that you can turn left/right to adjust the fog light aim up/down. Good luck.

On the Trail between the bumper and the skid plate there is a large opening that you can access both fog lights and other things. I had no idea the bumpers were that much different. My wifes Rav4 fogs lights were a pain and had to remove the fender liner like you had just mentioned.

Awesome description and thanks for the picture as well! I'm replacing the fogs with H9 bulbs and so I will have to adjust them down slightly so not to blind oncoming traffic.

The silverstar bulbs are whiter , but not more wattage than the std factory bulbs . (not sure about your fogs lights though)

Although I like them and would like to install them , have spent a fortune replacing them over and over , so I decided I would stay stock until I can find a better alternative .

If HIRs bulbs come in the size for the 5th, I'd get those over Silverstars.

I just finished installing all new High, Low, and Fog light bulbs. I used H9's in the low's and fogs and used the new 9011 HIR for the high's. The HIR were direct fit while the H9's need some minor trimming. But the output of these new bulbs are nothing short of :jaw drop:
