Symptoms of a failing clutch?

So I'm thinking about picking up an old beater Celica to teach my wife how to drive stick. I'm almost positive it needs a new clutch soon but I wanted to run it by you guys.

The clutch grabs right at the end of its travel, and when I'm in gear and I let of the gas it lurches a little bit. Would that lurching be a clutch going out or something worse?

It also needs 4 new tires (currently one is the donut) and 4 new shocks (bounces like a fat guy on a trampoline). Trying to make a educated choice on this. It's fairly cheap so I'm willing to do some work, but I don't need a huge project.

Other than that any input on a 6th gen celica st?

Those are the basic symptoms of a failing clutch, but honestly 9 times out of 10 the clutch cable adjustment is way off (stretched) and needs adjusted back to spec normally clutch pressure is felt after the first 2" when pushing in the clutch pedal. Also bleed out all the clutch fluid w/new fluid probably original fluid, slave cylinder etc. also check for a leak in system pull back the rubber boot and should be dry underneath. easy fix most likely or atleast better than it is now.

4 new tires for a celica 200 bucks tops mounted and balanced
4 new shocks front and rear complete assembly aftermarket basics on amazon/ eBay
going for all 4 200 bucks for prime choice brand or DTA's etc..

All that with a couple things here and there maybe
so tack on another 500 bucks to the selling price.
