Well...it's actually called Moosehead Pure Synthetic. :rocker:
I was at the dealer on Saturday and while waiting at the parts counter I noticed their oil change specials . Using Genuine Toyota Oil . Any idea who makes it for them ? Toyota oil was offered in both Synth and Reg .
70 bucks for a Synth service and 35 for normal oil service .

If you are going to use conventional oil, Havoline is one of my fav as far as conventional goes....otherwise i run Motul lubricants.

Oil change during the break in period...
... I just picked up an 07 T4R...
I'm at 2500 miles and it still has the original Oil in it from the dealer...
If I change to Mobil1 Syn now, will it harm my motor?
Then I will change again at 5000 and stay on a "every 5K mile oil change interval" ...

On my truck, I switched over to Mobil 1 Extended Performance after 5k miles. I change my oil once a year (about 10-12k miles), and I love the oil. My MPG went up by about 1-2mpg, which could have been the oil or the engine breaking in. Highly recommend it for anyone who has a busy schedule making up 30 hours a day!
I also use it in my wifes Honda Accord, same 5w-30 and everything. Love it.

I have 21,000 miles on my 2004 4Runner and i am thinking of changing to synthetic oil in my next oil change? do you recommend it and what are the benefits and disadvantages? how long is oil change intervals, 5,000 miles? what brands of synthetic oil are best out there? how much does it cost usually for an synthetic oil change ? is it worth it changing to synthetic? i appreciate for the feedback. thanks!
Mobil 1, my 2 cents
As an previous owner of a compressor company, I used many, many types of oil. Amzoil was one of them. It failed in several compressors and cost thousand in repair. We switched to Mobil 1 and never had an oil related problem again.
The shop sponsored a VW race car. We used Pennsoil and had one failed engine after another. A Penns rep came to help us look into the problem. He said the Pennsoil was breaking down and he actually recommended we use Mobil 1. We did and ran the same engine for 2yrs with no problems.
I ran Mobil 1 in a GM car with a V-6. Had a head gasket fail at 72,000 mi, took the heads in to have the valves done and heads cleaned. The shop said the valves, etc were in mint condition. "What ever oil you're using, keep using it". It was Mobil 1.
Living in MN we did some very unscientific tests. We left several brands of synthetic oil outside in -20 degree temps. Mobil 1 was the one that poured out like it was 50 above.
Then we cooked them in a pan. All but the Mobil 1 turned dark brown.
We use Mobil 1 in all of our cars, Corvette, Acura TL, Suburban and now in my new '07 T4R and love it.
This is just my 2 cents worth and others may have other stories. These are just a few of mine.

Where did you find the Japanes filters for sale? This is the filter that was on my 4Runner from the factory, but the dealer doesn't carry them. Currently, I use either a Mobil 1 or K&N Gold filter.

These "other brands" that were tested, what were they? This is the first complaint ive heard of Amsoil, they are supposed to be the "one of the best in synthetics oils", ive ran it before, but its hard for me to find it around here, plus many of their grades are not API certified. I personally run Motul 8100 full synthetic 5W30 in my 4Runner V8, and Motul 300V in my Z cars, always have worked well for me.

What's the big deal with the K&N filters over the OEM Denso Toyota filters YZZD3? other then the fact they are made by Champion Labratories, same people who make Walmart oil filters, etc. If its for oil flow then youll be sacrificing filteration, you just have to balance flow and filteration together, you cant have both.
Maybe its just me but i cant justify paying more then $5 for a oil filter, especially since my oil change intervals are every 5K w synthetic. I dont even buy that pricy of a oil filter for my 400+ hp Z.
