Synthetic Gear Oil

I know that there are lots of different kinds... off the top of my head...

Amsoil, Mobil1, Castol...

Anyone heard of "Lucas"? How does it compare? Is it any good? Specs = HERE

That's funny you started this thread, because I am needing to do both diffs and the transfer case. I searched around town for some synthetic gear oil such as redline, and all I can find is Lucas. Lucas is excellent, super high quality oil, but very expensive. Lucas lubricants are notorious with racers. I would have just went with Lucas, but the 75w-90 is going for $15 a quart here in OKC. Redline and Amsoil are significantly cheaper at 8-$9.

Pay a visit to the nearest major retailer of Lucas Oil (NAPA, Checkers, AutoZone). They usually have a display on the counter that Lucas has set up to show how their products are different from the conventional oil type. The display is made out of plastic but you can clearly understand what Lucas is trying to convey to the customers.

I would.. cept that I live in Canada and we don't have a checkers or autozone here. I guess there's a NAPA......

does anyone know if its even GL-5? any certifications???

Thanks.. I read that page but it's talking about additives and not straight gear oil.

I don't think you will find a better gear oil then this, good for 100K miles! I used it in both diffs and transfer case.

Here's what I use, and because you don't change the dif oil too much it makes sense to use a good POE based oil.

I used to use Redline in my M3 diff and tranny (75w90 and D4ATF respectively). I had to mail order them which was a pain in the ass.

No I'm only a "Preferred Customer", Boaz is the resident Amsoil dealer and he has great prices.
