synthetic oil change

Hey guys,
Is it worth $50 to get a synthetic oil change from the dealer? I got an appointment Wednesday and I can not decide of it is worth it. I have 15,000 miles on the car now. Would it be ok to switch?
If I do switch how many miles should I wait between oil changes? Any thoughts and recommendations would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Certainly OK to switch - I did. But I bought the oil and had them change it over while doing some other stuff.

How much does the dealer charge you if you bring your own Mobil 1? What kind of synthetic are they putting in for you for $50?

You can always consider chaning it yourself. If you have a V6, it should be quiet easy. I have not done this myself but I plan to change my own oil as soon as I hit 1K.

If they are giving you the synthethic oil change for $50 then I'd take the deal. My dealer here in so. California wanted to charge me $30 plus I had to bring my own mobil one synthetic oil. They were going to install the Toyota filter for me. I passed on the deal since I still only have about 14,300 miles on my Runna. I am going to make this oil switch after the original 36k mileage point is passed.

I do my own oil changes and have been using Mobil-1 5w30 since 5,000 miles. Your 4Runner will thank you if you do the same!

Since the oil filter is on top of the V-6 engine and the drain plug is easily accessible through the plastic skid plate cut-out underneath, there is no reason why you can't do it yourself.

ok I've decided to do this myself! Any recommendations on oil filters? I'm deciding between 3 options:

1)K&N Gold Oil filter
2)Toyota oil filter
3)fram extended mileage filter (7500 miles)

Anyone know the how many miles the K&N filter should last?
I will probably have to change the filter in between oil changes right?

No real reason I could find to use anything else than a Toyota filter. They are very good.
You'll have to stay with the recommended oil change interval of 5k if your runner is still under warantee, which it looks like it is.
