Synthetic Oil Old engine

I've got the old 3vze Engine with about 218,000kms on it, roughly 205,000miles

I have been changing the oil frequently as I put quite a bit of K on it in a month
So I change the oil every 1500km, I get oil cheap dont ask, plus add a bit of paranoia and you've got me.

I was wondering if I would benefit from a synthetic 10w30 (red line, royal purple) oil in my oil changes/engine operation

I have been using lucas oil stabalizer with the run of the mill penzoil with a fram filter every 2500 km, but was wondering if anyone has seen positive outcome of synthetic?

Synthetic will hold up longer than conventional oil, allowing you to go longer between oil changes. The downside is that it's thinner and will likely cause an older engine to leak from everywhere.

I went from full conventional to a synthetic blend in my '02 Jetta at about 80k miles and it leaked for a week or so. I don't plan to switch from full conventional on my 4runner unless it's after a full rebuild with all new seals and gaskets.

I talked to a mechanic friend about converting over to synthetic and he said, "Just say no". On an older engine (I've got almost 200K) you're asking for trouble. Just an opinion.

It's been proven that it's ok to put full synthetic oil in an old engine. If you think you want to run it because of the benefits of synthetic oil, then just do it. I'd probably just run Mobil1 though instead of the higher priced niche oil you mention. M1 is good stuff.
