t-1809 Ipod control

I just got a t-1809. How does it control the ipod? Through the rcas? Or is there a special cable, there is a port that I am not familiar with.

If there is a special cable where can I find it?

Does it have to be an ipod or can it be another kind of mp3 player maintianing control at the head unit?

I just ordered one on ebay for $70. Plugs into the back of the head unit, and goes straight to the ipod.

Isn't the unit plug and play ? Then why would the jack port in the center console work ??

Because there isn't a plug, ipod control wasn't even an option until later years.
