T-IV replacement ATF found?

Hey to all, I may of asked before, Looking for opinion on; can I do a ATF service to my 2003 4Runner V-8 and use Mobil 1? I want to drop the plug, and drain the pan, add in a gallon of Mobil1. Is Mobil 1 compatable with T-IV ATF? thanks, CSM-H

To all, as I have continued to search for an alternative to buying T-IV at the dealership, I was in Advance Auto and on the self was some Valvoline Maxlife 75,000 ATF, it states on the back that it will work in "Lexus/Toyota requiring T-II, T-III and T-IV". So I looked at the Valvoline Brand of Dextron III/ Mercon V and they also say the same thing on the back. So as I read it this might be a lower cost alternative to buying T-IV from the dealership. comments? CSM-H

It is best to have the AT flushed completely with new ATF. I did mine at 20k at the dealer with Type-IV. ALso you can use AMsoil ATF as it is T-IV compatible. It is a full syn ATF and have had good reviews on previous Gen 4Rs. I would still recommend a full flush though, just make sure you get a good shop to do it. ALso a shop where you can supply your own ATF and their machine can use it. SOme shops only have these barrels they pump ATF into the tranny, NO GO.

Bulldog Yota, thanks...but as I do most of my own maintenance, all I'm looking for is to "service" the tranny not a complete replacement, thus the questions as to a applicable alternative to buying T-IV at the dealership. thanks again, CSM-H
