T4R '98 radio

Hey i just bought a '98 SR5 4x4 T4R and it has everything stock. Well everytime i turn on the radio the speakers all make a hissing noise at really high volume almost like static and drowns out whatevers playing and i was gonna pull out the speakers and test eatch one before changing the radio. is that the best course of action. and can someone link me to a thread describing how to remove the speakers please? thanks in advance

if its all speakers then its ur radio if its some speaker its time ti change them.

You should be able to test each speaker for the hissing noise using the balance and fade controls on the head unit. The hissing noise can also be caused by a weak ground which is not protecting you from errant voltages. Be sure to check your ground wire on the rear of the stereo for and chaffing or loose connections.

Lastly there is this thing called distortion, it's what happens when you crank up the volume on garbage paper cone speakers from the factory. When you overdrive the speakers by sending too much power to them, it will hiss, pop, and crackle until the speaker surround eventually detaches itself from the cone. And then you get to buy new ones!!! yea!!

Don't have any advice on taking the door panel off, you may want to buy a Haynes to go along with your new ride.

Nah it wasn't the speakers I figured out what it was it was the antenna trying to go up and down it wasn't the speakers. So all I have to do is turn the car off with my tape inside and ill never hear it again =) and what are haynes?
