T4R for Fairbanks AK

Hello everyone,
Im new to this Forum, so not sure if I'm posting this in the right place.
I just moved up to Fairbanks Ak in the summer, so my question pertains to
people that have owned or own 4runners in cold climates (-20 to -60 °F).
So heres to my question, I currently have a 2000 Lexus RX300 and have the feeling that it was not made to handle cold weather, so for all you 4runner owners out there, how do the 4th Gen 4runners handle the cold? I have seen loads of them up here, and so can only conclude that they work well, but before I sell my Lexus, I want to be sure im getting into a car that can take the cold better then what I have now. Thanks for the help, I could not think of any place else to go to ask this question. If im posting this in the wrong section, please move it.

oh, and by the way, my family has had 5 4runners ranging from the early 90's up to the 99, and we absolutely love them, so my question is not having to do with how nice of a car they are, because I know that they are one of the best on the market, I just want to know how they deal with cold cold cold weather.

Ive never seen negative 60 but I have started the 4runner many times in the -5 to maybe -10. No problem, the 4 runner actually runsand starts smooth when cold compared to my 2012 Tundra and the 4 runner has 125,000 more miles on her. I would say that it would be just fine, they are tough trucks, great 4 wheel drive and saftey systems for all that alaskan snow. I would have a block/oil heater or an engine heat blanket too keep it warm anyway, I think its pretty standard for any vehicle in super cold temps. that way it would start easy, live longer and your heat would get warm faster.

Mine has done fine with the last three winters. It has the standard array of heaters. I did add some plexi glass grille inserts to help it retain heat when driving on the rich. Other than that nothing special. XREAS of the sport edition is a litttle harsh riding at anything south of -20 but my tacoma rides like crap as well at that temp. So go ahead and buy a 4runner and be relieved that you will not have to worry about your vehicle.

I'm curious what you mean by you Lexus wasn't made to handle the cold. What exactly is making you feel that way (hard starts, running poorly)? Do you have a block heater / oil pan heater?

I just ask because I would have assumed the Lexus would do just fine in cold temps. If you don't have heaters installed I think you could probably save some cash and just get those.

If it's just poor handling some new tires may do the trick.

My advice is to move back south. It is way to cold up there for me.
