T4R newb NY (long Island) Taking over my dad's '97 SR5 4x4

Hi all. Took my dad's 97 SR5 4x4 auto. Joining the forum just to see what I can do to get this car running into the 250k+. It has about 180k miles on it and runs pretty well. The only problem is a delay in the first gear engaging. I read some posts about that (solenoid problems or throttle position sensor). Just ordered an OBD-II reader, so I am going to check on any codes it throws out. Glad to be here and if anyone is in the long island area and knows a good shop they trust with their 4runner, let me know.
