T4R Police Vehicles

I know that many of you have seen these before. I thought I'd post this recent picture (today) of the 3rd Gen and 4th Gen SE Police vehicles in Hawaii. I'm leaving today back to California. I had a quick one day business trip out and on a morning walk down Waikiki. I thought you'd guys get a kick out of the very clean T4R's. These have just been washed and are ready for a chase. Maybe they'll Satoshi that grille?

Are they actual police vehicles or security/special detail/private vehicles? Most police stations don't use older vehicles such as a 3rd gen and are contracted by car companies so they get up to date cars.
 
Honolulu Police Department (HPD) does have these for unmarked cars. They use Monte Carlos, Camaros, etc. These are the real deal and NOT private security.
 
Interesting, pretty much all Law Enforcement vehicles are domestic vehicles. A little dissapointing though, woulda been cool to see them painted police colors, nice long flat bar, bullbar, mesh, ect.
 
I guess it's cost since here our CHPs get new vehicles as unmarked cars which include Dodge Charger wagons and Chevy PUs along with a few other Chevy SUVs.

If I remember right these are personal vehicles of officers that they use for official police business. I've seen other pics of different ones on this forum. Pretty cool.
 
I used to live right up the block from that little station. Yes, as far as I can remember they are personal vehicles used for official business. T4R's are very commonly used on Oahu as police vehicles. I used to see them all the time.

The Honolulu Police Department has a "Subsidized Vehicle Program". Qualifying officers, usually those who have been on the force for several years can purchase a vehicle from an approved list of vehicles (Cars/SUV), and the department will equip them with a removable roof light bar, siren, police radio and computer. The officers also receive a monthly maintenance allowance including fuel. The officers use their vehicles when they are on duty. When they are off duty, they remove the roof light bar and use it as their personal vehicle. The 4th generation 4Runner is very popular with the Honolulu Police Officers. The program also uses Mustangs, Camaros, Dodge Charges, Toyota Camrys/Highlanders and Infiniti G Sedans to name a few. Be careful when you are on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, because the "Subsidized Vehicles" carry no markings except the blue roof mounted light bar and police radio antenna.
 
Yup, unmarked T4Rs the real deal. So pay attention to your rear view mirror, never know who's behind you! :eek:

Strobe switches w/ LEDs, siren and air-horn button in console cutouts. Radio & mic upper right corner.
