So I'm thinking I'd like to take advantage of the Toytec 10% off which ends today. I have the black 2014 trail and I am looking at the following:
BOSS Kit
Radflo Extended Travel
Then my next question is whether it is imperative to install new UCAs with these setups. If the answer is yes, which do you guys think are the best bang for the buck? I would not buy the LR ones after reading many of posts.
Lastly, what size tires would you guys recommend with this setup? I'm trying to get as much ground clearance as possible as I spend a lot of time in deep sand on the beach.
Thanks for any advice!
Brian
First off, this is my opinion based on my research and knowledge. I am not a mechanic or an engineer and this is not the gospel.
Both Radflo and Boss are good kits, several guys in the 5th gen section are running them, and I don't think you can go wrong with either. It comes down to what you want to spend, and what all you want to do with your truck. Coilovers aren't a necessity unless you just need or want the adjustability. OME makes a great kit, but there is no adjustably. If you are planning on adding armor, wenches, a lot of gear, RTT, etc that will all come into play when looking at what suspension you should get, as well as how comfortable you want the ride to be. I went with Icon because of the ride quality and adjustability. Before jumping into anything, read all you can. Don't buy a suspension based solely on getting a good deal, make sure its what you want and fits your needs. Here is a good link to start with:

UCA's are generally considered a necessity when you lift it over 3" because the alignment will be out of spec. In some cases they may be required depending on your suspension. For instance, I called Icon and they said UCA's are required for their long travel coilovers because the stock one's can't handle the extra downward travel, even though I wasn't planning on raising the front a full 3". If you decide to get them or not, don't go cheap. There are places you can save money, but a vital suspension component shouldn't be one of them. Icon, Total Chaos, and Camburg are all good choices and pretty popular. Again, research and find one that suits your needs. Also, if you are planning on a 3" or more lift, you may want to consider a diff drop.
As far as tire sizes, check here:

I have Cooper AT3's in stock size and I've had no issues in sand on the beach. I even pulled a Buick Rendezvous out of the deeper sand at Freeman Park in Carolina beach without any trouble. Keep in mind that the bigger tires will weigh more and effect your fuel economy (any lift will too) and put more stress on your wheel bearings.
Good luck with your choices, and enjoy your runner!!
