Taco LBJs/OTREs on my T4R - 3K later

So I had the Tacoma LBJs and OTREs installed right before Christmas on my 4Runner; turns out it was just in time. The tech who uninstalled them told me "If you did this as preventive maintenance, you have good intuition," and told me the stock ones MAY have lasted another 5K or so.

Immediately upon replacement I suddenly noticed the REAR end of my 4Runner was somewhat loose....mainly because any looseness or wobbling in the front end LBJs was suddenly gone. It's tight as heck - not exactly TOO tight, but suffice to say there is *NO* play at all from side-to-side. So now I can tell I'll need new shocks soon or something. Or maybe springs or a lift kit. :

Since installation I've put almost 3K on the vehicle. We towed a 6.5' x 12' trailer from MO to VA and back, and did a ton of driving and some very light off-roading. Suffice to say I'm insanely glad I did the Taco LBJ/OTRE upgrade, especially having driven through the cities of Louisville, KY and Charleston, WV. (Those of you who live near there know what I'm talking about - their roads are fairly crappy.)

Anyways...anyone thinking about an LBJ/OTRE replacement may want to seriously consider these; I'm impressed as hell with them.

Funny you posted this, I was just revisiting your post with the part numbers listed and comparing prices at the various online vendors.
Best price I have so far for OEM is $266ish shipped to my house from ShopTRD - Your ONE STOP Shop for Genuine Toyota Parts & Accessories .

also part number for the bolt (may or may not come with the LBJ) is 90080-10066, you need 8 IF they don't come with your LBJ

Thanks for posting this - I can't believe I forgot to give credit to Singtoe, who indeed came up with the idea. Much thanks to you - it's completely changed the way my vehicle handles.

For the record, I previously mentioned that they didn't come with my LBJs. (I ordered them from ToyotaPartSales.com). I misspoke - they DID in fact come with the bolts.

The part numbers I used are posted along with the description; overkill, I know, but I made a mistake to begin with. (Heck, I made a mistake posting them. LOL)

I did this mod on Veteran's Day. I have probably 2000 ish miles on them now. Definitely a lot tighter, I love it.

Kung, glad to hear you did it before the trip, especially with the trailer outback. The adds piece of mind is so worth the marginal difference in cost.

Yeah, you bet. Some of the roads in WV were so bad that I could actually see my 12' trailer airborne for a half second or so - seriously. Driving on the old LBJs/OTREs through those same roads? I'm almost dead sure I'd have lost them.
