Tacoma has VSC & Atrac.... opinions wanted about lease.

Thai , I was at dealer yesterday with my dad and they told me the 4R TE is not in production because the plant in GA. has a shut down , I said they are made in Japan. Naturally he argues that , but is trying to get me into a 08. He said the TE will not hit the dealers till spring/summer. Take that with a grain of salt since I even had to argue with him about a Tacoma on the floor being a 4x4. He insisted it was a 2wd. So apparently the are making 2wd Tacoma's with a transfer case and a front drive shaft. Needless to say ........... he needs to learn his product.

Thanks for the laugh!!! These salesmen never cease to amaze me at the apparent lack of knowledge about their own product!

I looked at a 09 Tacoma OR pkg. 4x4 DC SB. I said it did not seem to have an ATRAC switch , but I was wrong , you have the option of ...

VSC on or off
Rear locker on or off
ATRAC on or off

They all have switchable options . Kinda cool , I liked the truck . Hmmmmm

I know the sport model has limited slip but I'm going to check if that has the ATRAC switch also. I know it has VSC on/off , the LSD is automatic engagement I would presume . I'll see about the ATRAC on the Sport.

The new LED hidden screen in the mirror for the back up camera is really cool also. The mirror looks totally normal until you put it in reverse and then a 2" x 2 1/2" full color screen pops up on the mirror. It comes as part of the Sport or OR package.

Man these things have come a long way.

Not yet Tman , just exploring my options . I still want to keep my 4R , but also looking at an 08 4R, since the deals are so good on financing. It's such a crap shoot of buying mine out if the value is close -vs- buying an 08 and loosing $5-6k driving it off the lot. This is the crap I hate about a lease.

I don't think the Tacoma is a trade down really just a different type of vehicle. I was impressed with the O/R package. It has a nice stance !! Wish the 4R looked like that. I could justify my use for a small bed and the enclose area of the 4R .

I most likely will pass on the TE 4R , they are not getting in until 08's are gone , the more aggressive ATRAC and the LD is a plus along with the 16 wheels IMO , but you know darn well if they only have 1 or 2 when my lease is done they not going to deal on them for the first few in the door. Just like the TE FJ and the TRD FJ , and even when the FJ first came out people were paying crazy money for the first few months until the dealers had a good inventory on hand.

Anyone know if the FJ is still set to be discontinued for 2010/11 ?


Also as far as my above post on the Sport edition DC/SB it does NOT have ATRAC , it has VSC/trac control and a LSD in the rear , still not a bad package . I like the look of the sport better.

Still can't get enough of driving my current one , just love it and it's capabilities.
