Tacoma Skid Plate

Hey, guys. So I've been looking around at pictures of everyone elses 4Runners trying to get ideas for some mods. I've noticed a few people that have installed the Tacoma skid plate, I particularly like how RonMaiden's looks. Where can I get one of these skid plates and what is the installation process? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking to get a Tacoma skid plate too. it is a direct bolt on for 96-98 4runners. It is also a direct bolt on for the 99-02 4runners but they have the fat lip bumper. You might wanna get some brackets to move it out a bit to have a better look. some 02 sport editions come with the skid plate factory but the plate sit low and almost tucked underneath the bumper from what Ive seen. I think Ron said he had fabricated some brackets for his skid plate so it would hug the fat lip of the 99+ 4runner bumper.

Ok sounds good. I'll PM Ron and see how he mounted his because we both have '99s. Where can I pick one of these skid plates up?

That's not a skid plate. It's nothing more than a lip spoiler. I had them on my 2002 4Runner Sport and wasn't too impressed with it. They are very VERY fragile, as in mine bent from hitting a pile of snow. I would not waste any money into this. Rather, get a proper skid plate from Bud Built that actually protects your undercarriage.

FYI, they also come stock on 2001-2002 4Runner Sport Editions. They also have them on the 4th Gen's, but I don't think they will bolt up. But once again, very ricey mod, IMO. It's like those huge wings on Civics that do nothing.
 
I don't know, I think they look pretty good even if they don't do anything.

I searched trdparts4u.com and couldn't find the listing.

I know that the part number is PT212-35040.
 
that is the link i was given to look up the skid plate by ron maiden i think. PM him and ask him, im sure he will know.
 
Yes,everybody knows it a "ricey" but it's a nice piece of factory rice and mine is always removed before any off road excursion.

Here's my pics of the fabbed brackets whh extend the plate 3" forward.

Ron would you recommend buying this or not considering it is supposdly "ricey"?

Do you remember which part number yours is?
Did it come with all the necessary hardware?
 
So you had to make your own brackets in order for the plate to be sitting flush? I got the idea after seeing this picture of your rig

That's the exact look I'm going for. How complicated was your install, Ron? If you had to fab your own brackets then that might be a little to skilled for my blood and I would probably need to take it to a shop. What would I need to tell them in order for mine to come out like yours did? I've seen pictures of other people's skid plates and some don't seem to hug the bumper like yours does but yours is the look I want.
 
You can have a shop just fab up simple rectangle piece with corresponding holes and should only cost $10-20. All the other hardware is OEM is included with the plate but you will need another pair of bolts/nuts.

I'll take some measurements on the brackets and post them here shortly.
