Tacoma Transfer Case in a 3rd Gen 4Runner

Hi guys,

I know that this topic spans far and wide, and I've done quite a bit of research on this over the past couple of days. Can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Problem
The transfer case housing on my 4Runner is cracked near the front output shaft, leaking gear oil all over the place. I'd like to replace it with a different t-case.


Potential Fix
I found a low-mileage transfer case locally that is a decent deal, however it was pulled from a Tacoma.

My 4Runner: '97 SR5, 4x4 Automatic, with J-shifter transfer case (no push-button 4WD)

Donor Tacoma: 2001, Double-Cab 4x4 Automatic, with J-shifter transfer case (no push-button 4WD)

Does anyone has a definitive answer here - are the t-cases the same in the housings and number of splines and gearing?
