TAG Rear Bumpers!

If anyone goes with TAG (or already has a TAG bumper), please post your experience. I believe this company used to be called Kennesaw Mountain Accessories (KMA), and had a pretty bad reputation in the off-road fabrication industry (ridiculously long delays, quality issues, service, etc.). Somebody correct me if I am wrong. . .

Well you are right about the 2 company's being the same. Well that sucks if it is true about the bad reputation.
I have been trying to find a good sheet metal bumper for a while now and can't find anything worth a damn.
I have been wanting this one from Big Country Customs, but they don't make it anymore.

That IS a nice bumper. Too bad they discontinued it.
It seems to me that if someone stepped up and came up with a production rear bumper with tire swing for our runners, they would have customers lining up. I've been looking for months for a rear plate (non-tube) rear bumper for my 1st gen 4Runner, and nobody makes them. I mean, nobody. I love the workmanship of a Shrockworks, Armorology, Demello, All Pro or CBI, but neither of these guys seem to make a bumper for my 1st Gen.
I guess the only solution is individually custom-made?

custom is awesome, but unless you can collect your own material its just so expensive! i got quoted for a tube bumper for my truck roughly 1200 from a local fab shop. now on a square tube bumper like the TAG one i would think it might be cheaper just because there isnt as much bending which saves a lot on labor costs
They can change their name but their customer service and attitude towards customers is pure ****. I have their front whincher bumper with D rings and their rear bumper. I can say with out a doubt its tough as balls.. People are scared of my front bumper. that thing is a beast..
How ever there are things that are bad. For instance the cutouts for the new blinkers were way two big for the blinkers that came with it. I had to silcone them in. No instructions. Some of the hardware was bolt on and none of it was metric. I had to drill it all out. Good luck asking about it. Cause they dont answer the phone or reply to emails.
I asked how long it would take for my order and it was 1 month. 6 months later after many, many phone calls and emails my stuff showed up. You pay all up front and when you want a refund you can only get half back based on the paper work you have to sign.
Communication with this company is just not happening. Stay far away from them. Dont get me wrong I love my bumpers but I wish someone else would make them with better communication skills..
Pisses me off every time i think about it.. So I will not rant anymore..

Talked to them a few months ago over the phone asking questions about their 4th gen multi carrier and I can say they weren't the nicest or most intelligent people I've ever talked to, and yes they do have a bad rep hence the name change

Look at Padgett Fabrication. He's a small operation, very flexible in terms of price and features and such while we were talking. I think I've decided I want to make my own, but if I don't, I'll be going with him.

Bcc does custom work - so I am sure if you paid for one they would build it.
They just did my TG sliders and the bars are incredible. The paint they put on it - engine black paint is ridiculous. 6 days later and they are already rusting. They should have used black Tremclad. Stupid in my opinion.

Bringing up an old thread to see if anybody has had any recent experience with TAG. I have been in contact with them and they have been very quick to respond and very helpfully. Is it possible they have changed their business practices? Their prices are great and I really cant spend $1k on a bumper, just need one for some light to moderate wheeling and to do a little occasional towing. It has to be better than my stock beaten one! Thoughts?

CBI Offroad has these in the works--they already have the 1st Gen bumper out, with the 2nd Gen on the way. I was just in contact with them in the last week, and they hope to have the 2nd Gen design in about a month. I told them I want basically the same thing that TAG offers (swingaway spare, shackle mounts, hitch, jerry can), and they said that should be no problem. From all I've heard, CBI has an excellent reputation, so that's likely the route I'm going--I'm also wary of TAG's rep.
