Tail Light Tint - Interesting

Randomly doing my '2010 4Runner accessories' google search and this popped up:

I think I like the look of the darker Tail Lights. No clue if products like this last, but for $40 it would not be the end of the world. I know people have expressed concern about the light size/looks, so this might 'hide' it a little more. Just thought I would share my find.

I plan on tinting mine soon with VHT Nightshade. Not as dark as my Tacoma lights, but darker than stock

I love the look of the tinted tail lights as you can see mines are tinted. But If you are planning on getting the film?... with the shape of the 5th generation tails it is going to be worst than a PITA to try to put than thing right and smooth...JMHO

BTW mine are painted with VHT NightShade.

Hmmm....you are right, that might not be the easiest with the shape.

Never heard of the VHT NightShade, just looked it up, very nice, but reading says that once it is on, it is there to stay. I think at least with the film if for some reason I really did not like it I could simply (hopefully) remove it.

If someone else is not the guinea pig I might be soon

I think the precuts would be a good idea. Probably not too hard to apply and would last I think.

These 5th gen tail lights and head lights for that matter have these unusual bulges that stick out for the yellow part.It would be pretty hard to get it to
lay down right.
I blacked out all my lights on a bmw I had with the vinyl pre cuts. It was pretty hard and they were relatively flat shaped compared to the 5th's. You have to use water,squeegees and a heat gun to work it into shape because they come flat.A couple of them started lifting up on a corner after a year and I took them off. That is why most people mask them off and use the spray on like JAC.But then it's permanant unless you change the lens.

It's basically like tint right? Spray the adhesive side and apply it and then squeegee out the water?

I don't have any experience with the precuts, but I would assume as long as you prep the lights well, cleaning them etc, everything should work.

$40 is a little pricy though if they didn't last long.

How are blacked out tail lights remotely legal? They are not DOT approved once you've tinted them.

If someone rear ends you, and you live in a state with comparative fault, you will be held partially liable.

It's very difficult to see the brake lights during bright sun when you've tinted them.

Sorry...but I don't understand this at all from a safety perspective.

Sorry...but I don't understand this at all from a safety perspective.

Law by me is if you can see them from 1000ft away you're good. During the sun, the 3rd brake light is never washed out by it. I have never heard of an accident because they didn't see someones brake lights through the tint , but I guess it's possible. I'll take the chance. The 03-05 lights are hideous in my opinion, and look better tinted. Been pulled over twice for speeding and no cop cared about the tints, both windows and taillights.

Any idea where I could get a 3rd brake light cover for my 2010 SR5 4 runner? Cracked it comming into the garage on day 2 of ownership with the lift gate open. Looks like its the same as the Sienna but they just started in 2010 and I'm not seeing any parts for it..just the entire assembly with bulb and all for $118.00..all I need is the plastic cover. The entire spoiler with wiper assembly is $300 plus.
