So I bought the truck used from my mother in law. Tailgate would not lift, took it apart and cleaned out everything replacing the plastic clips holding the rods, and still did not work. So just last week I had to replace the starter, and by the way the starter was the original on my 98 4runner, replaced the starter and lo and behold the tailgate works. Well it worked for about five days. So, am I looking at a relay or a fuse that needs replacing?
